Hyrum Ice Starting

There’s a paper thin sheet of ice covering 2/3 of Hyrum Reservoir this morning. With no wind and these cold temperatures it won’t be long before it’s safe.

Yea- drove by last night------- but I think the wind maybe coming tonight

Thanks for the report, I was hoping to get out there one last time before ice up. I guess i will be heading to BL for some whitties this weekend.

Drove the side road home last night and swung by the east side- no ice except in the back bay

Any more updates on the ice at Hyrum?

I’ll drive the back way home tonight and see what it looks like- said it was -5 and the radio station in Logan this morning- it was 15 above in Paradise

I have never fished Hyrum before, but am considering it this year through the ice. What species are in there, and what are some good areas to fish. I have a snow mobile so access to the entire lake is good.

It’s freezing very fast now- the east end was certainly thicker than the middle- as of last night you wouldn’t have got me on any of it though but I was standing in the field at the east end looking down. I did not go down to the ice.
-12 last night in Logan though it was warmer than that in Hyrum and my temp was 4 in Paradise.

It looked like this this morning. It’ll be iffy at best for this weekend.

Hopefully the fishing will be better through the ice this winter than it was last winter. It was pathetic for some reason a year ago.

In the top left of your picture from above the beach entrance you can see the shadows from the tress on the ice— about where that last shadow is there was what looked like open water ( a patch about 20 yards wide and in a circle-)- this was last night- I almost thought it was actually the bottom and not open water. Can’t see it in yhe picture though. I guess I;ll drive the back way home again

About how far is Hyrum from mantua?

15-20 minutes, stay on the 91 towards Logan and you will see signs for Hyrum state park.
