Huntington report 12-2

After watching my all-too-rare day off become snowed out, and doing the requisite chores for a kitchen pass, I saw on the news that “they” expected the storm to lessen up. Off I went to check out Huntington. Well, it never did stop snowing, but I got on the water at about 2:10 PM. The fishing until 3 PM was fast and I caught several, albeit for a little smaller fish on average. I was using a combo rig of a small flasher spoon on top and a small white tube jig on the bottom. Both were tipped with crawler pieces. I caught equal numbers on each. At 3PM, the fishing shut off and I only had a few hits until 3:45, when I left due to the deteriorating weather. Not bad though for a short trip. I was fishing in 8-10 ft. of water. These were my first Tigers, so I was excited.

If you go tomorrow, be prepared to deal with the conditions. The slush was bad. There seemed to be two layers. The top layer was only about 2-3 inches and not bad, but you would often break through and hit the 2nd pocket. This was about 6 inches deep. Below that was about 4 inches of ice. I was prepared for it with my neoprene waders, but often, I had slush well past my boots. The second problem is that the area got quite a bit of snow. It was a chore to hoof it from the parking lot to the water, and back. Also, 4 wheel drive is a must at the moment. There wasn’t anyone there when I was fishing, but there was evidence that someone was fishing there this morning.
Tight lines.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you really had to tough it out to get there and back. Glad you made it safely and could hook into a few tigers. They are fun to catch.
