Hook sizes

[crazy][crazy][crazy][crazy][crazy]

Does anyone know if there is a scale or some way to tell hook sizes.

There is not a standard scale between manufactures. Some manufactures 3/0 hook would be someone elses 5/0 hook. I just stick with certain manufactures and get used to thier sizes for my applications.

Hope this helps.

:sunglasses:**Here is a copy of a PDF file from Jann’s Netcraft for sizing hooks, swivels, blades and other items. **

It needs to be printed to provide accurate sizing. It appears larger than actual size on a computer screen.

Of course, some hook models have larger or smaller gaps in their hooks when compared to the “standards”. There can be a noticeable difference between brands and styles.

Thanks Wyobraz, guess I’ll just have to pay attention to what I’m buying.

Thanks Pat, you just reminded me that I have a new Jann’s catalog here somewhere. Thanks for your help.

What kind of hook are you seeking? Like mentioned earlier, different brands vary in their size compared to others. I prefer Gami or Matsuo (avoid Mustad) for they are always true and sharp.
I am wondering if you are pouring molds? Gami, Daiichi and Matzuo have excellent, lightweight and strong jig hooks.

I’m not really looking at any particular hook, I was just trying to figure out how to tell what size some hooks are.

Unless you know the brand and model number, its nearly impossible to guess the exact size of a particular hook. There is no uniformity to hook sizes. They all vary by brand and model. I have hooks that are 4 or 5 “numerical” sizes apart, that have identical gaps and shank lengths. No two 1/0’s are the same, or any other size. Even little fly hooks, like 18’s and 20’s vary greatly by brand and model. And the bigger hooks are not even close.
