Might be heading for holmes creek this afternoon? Just wondering is anyone has been there? how thick is the ice? what has been biting there? Last year it was my fav place to fish, always did well there and nice sized crappie too. any info would be nice???
The week of Christmas, a few people had gone out. Mostly trout, but a couple perch and catfish were caught.
I assume the ice is safe enough, since it’s been farkin’ cold!!! (at least in my opinion, but I’m a wimp)
Think I will just wait and hit echo early tomorrow morning, cant find anyone to join me and dont like taking those kind of risks any more, sure sucks gettin old, if I was 19 I wouldnt let anything stop me, now I got to think of the family first…[;)]
Just head on up. There will be plenty of people on the ice and lots of fresh tracks to follow.
I’m not going until late. I like the just before to just after dark bite.
Ill hit holmes creek next fri right after work, I get off between noon and 1:30, last year that was my regular schedual and if the fishin is like it was last year I will make it the same this year.
Iwould like to try echo or pineview early tomorrow, maybe lost creek I always slay em there, plus I can take my daughter with me in the morning, we have only been to mantua this year, so she would love it.
I hit Holmes creek today with 3 of my kids. Got there about 3:30 and fished until dark. My daughter landed one 10 inch rainbow and we had numerous bites, Hard to fish when chasing around 3 other poles that are getting bites. kids had a blast. Fish showed up consistantly on the fish finder. Ice is atleast 6 inches and very easy to walk on. A little snow on the ice but packed and some good high traffic trails to walk on.
Thanks for the info straightliner, I ended up goin there sunday mornin anyway, caught one largemouth right when I got there and nothin the rest of the day, I just love goin there cuase its so close to home and work, so I will still make it my regular stop after work on fridays? I hear there are wallye in there ever caught one?
I asked about it before, and apparently the last time one was caught, was about a year ago at least. So there are a couple, but they’re very elusive.
I would love to fish Holmes Creek, as it’s just up the road from my house… but knowing my luck, I’ll just get rainbows all the time, and none of the good fish!
Thats one thing I love about that place too, you never know what you are going to pull through the hole, last year I saw bluegill, catfish, white bass, rainbows, and of course the biggest black crapie I have ever caught, 12 in and very tasty. Show up on friday nights I will be the bigest guy out there, cant miss me.
I know…being a local Utard, but i don’t know where Holmes is at. Any insight?
If you can find valley veiw golf corse in layton, then you can find holmes creek, its just east of the golf course, park on the side of the road and hike down the access road, then you will be right on top of the dam

I went there again today. I graph tons of fish but I would say a quarter of them bite. I had a fish almost pull my ice pole through the hole. I caught it just in time and jerked it. I had something nice, it put up a good fight and got off about half way. Have no idea what it was but I will be hitting it again tomorrow. Its just so close to home and easy access so why not?

A large carp was recently caught out of there. One never knows what will come through the ice at Holmes Creek.
Well now there is a cell phone at the bottom of the lake for someone to catch. One in a million shot I tell ya, one in a million. I get a phone call hang up get a bite so I hurry and put the phone down on the stand with my pole. Grab the pole to set the hook, hit the stand phone bounces once on the ice in the hole it went. Brand new Blackberry Storm. WOW! I did catch the 8 inch rainbow though. Most expensive fish I ever I caught. I will laugh about it later.

Well, I was going to go to Holmes Creek but I think it’s got some bad karma and the mojo would be working against me, mon. Theekillerbee lost his coat, I think, and now you lost a cell phone. Maybe I’ll do some incantations and mumbo jumbo before I try it!
