I heard it said once that your freedom to swing your fist ends right where my nose begins. I’m personally of the same line of thinking regarding loud music. I recall one time long - long ago my father in law and I were fishing Illipah res. in eastern Nevada. A group of young folks showed up with the biggest damn boom box I’ve ever seen and the cranked it full blast with some king of awful rock sounding noise. Dunno if it was a fluke or not but the fishing shut off. I went over and asked them very nicely if they would turn it down a little. I was told in a real cocky manner that if I didn’t like it I could leave. I just picked the boom box up & turned it off then told them that if they cranked it up again, I’d throw it in the lake along with any of them that tried to stop me. Now, that’s when I was in my 30’s and could back myself up on a promise like that.
I’ve the same issue with those who have big bass speakers and amps in their cars and drive around rattling windows, all the while with their windows rolled down. I just can’t figure that out. I love music (mostly old country) but I’m damned if I’ll inflict it on others. If I want to listen to it all cranked up, I’ll invest in some earphones. Damn, I got on a soapbox this time!
Hey i have 2 12" kicker solo baric’s with a 2000 watt amp. I love my music loud and ear phones don’t give you a back massage like my system does.[;)]
People with their car stereos bumping at 3am were one of the reasons I got fed up with the city and moved to a very rural area. Don’t get me wrong, music is right up there with fishing for me, I was even a music major at one point, I just don’t feel like it’s right to inflict it on everybody else.
I thought the only ones who played loud music on the lake were the kids who borrowed daddy’s ski boat and diesel truck.
I am in a r & r band, I own a PA, 4 - 900 & 4 - 400 watt Power amps 
Loud music belongs on stage in Bars or Concerts.
Nice thats got to be alot of fun, ya i agree keep it in the concerts and bars, and if your going to listen to music out on the water you should make sure its not heard for miles, and that they are good ole tunes

Young folks don’t realize what they’re doing to their hearing when the crank their music like that. Hearing loss is so insidious and creeps up on us so slowly. I’ve never been an advocate of loud music but have worked in noisy environments much of my life. I first suspected something might be wrong when I discovered that I couldn’t understand my grandkids on the phone. I could hear them talking but couldn’t make out what they were saying. I finally had my hearing checked and found significant loss in the higher frequencies as is usually associated with noise exposure. I’M PAYING MY PRICE AND UNFORTUNATELY YOU WILL TOO.

See, I am a fan of loud music – don’t get me wrong. I have a 12" sub in the back seat of my truck, and whenever I can, I have that thing blowing my mind. I do keep it low or off if I’m in any type of neighborhood though, since I also despise those people who love to rattle my windows at 3am.

Oh yeah, I love really loud stuff like Ministry or NIN if the mood strikes me (though I’m gravitating more towards mellower stuff in my old age). I thought I was the only one that turns my car stereo down when I’m in neighborhoods, glad I’m not alone in that.
Noise pollution. Can’t avoid it anywhere. When you have to share space…land or water…with other people you are likely to have to endure the sounds of other less considerate folks. And because for many of us fishing is a quiet and contemplative sport, we are more sensitive to having our blissful reveries shattered by harsh sounds.
Music is only one area of noise pollution. But I am also jaw-clenched by the sounds of somebody’s tied up dog barking incessantly at them across the water…as they race around in their dogless boat. Or having a dog in a boat feel like it has to bark at the people in all the other boats…or float tubes.
Somebody with a group of screaming kids also puts my hair on end. Hey, I raised a few kids myself but never inflicted them upon everybody else on the lake. Kids are like dogs…a reflection of the parents or owners. Unruly ones need to be left home.
But my absolute pet peeve…when quietly enjoying a session on the water…is hearing a guy (or woman) screaming obscenities at the kids they have brought along on a fishing trip. If you take your kids fishing, make the trip about them and help them enjoy it. Don’t get so wrapped up in your own fishing that you go ballistic when little Johnnie gets his line tangled. And if the kids have to go potty you can shut down long enough to take them to the facilities instead of screaming at them to hold it.
When it comes to dealing with wild and crazy young folks in an insanely powered boat…with insanely blaring (expletive) music…I have found that it is better to just move and avoid them rather than trying to put a damper on THEIR enjoys. It’s like trying to teach a pig to sing. Just a waste of your time and it only aggravates the pig.
Again, that’s mainly why I fish early, on weekdays and carefully chose my venues. I can often get in a good morning of quiet fishing before the slush brains emerge from their comas and figure out how to launch and start their aggravation machines.

But just for the record, I ain’t always been so mellow. There were more than a few times in my younger and less tolerant past that I have been a bit more vocal and physical in my reactions to the jack wagons.
There is an old saying that “discretion is the better part of valor.” But I now believe that age and cowardice are the better parts of discretion. I no longer let my male ego write checks my body can’t cash.
I try to tell myself that other people have the right to enjoy the waters however they wish also. But I never seem to have any of the loudmouths with kids and dogs…and blaring music…come over to my float tube and tell me that I am being too quiet for them to enjoy their noise.
I used to be the “cool” kid with the system worth more than my car and I loved to make sure everyone heard my awful rap music… I look back now and I am so embarrassed. I hate those people now! Have some respect for the folks that just wants a quiet day fishing with the family. Nobody wants to hear motley Crüe over and over again… Except maybe flygoddess! [;)]

One noisemake that hasn’t been mentioned (is the dead horse beat enuf yet?) is gunfire.
Now I KNOW there’s a lot of you Bambi and Daffey killers out there - there is a hunting site on the site after all…

but why do they have to situate firing ranges next to a lake? Have heard TD make mention of the artillery range at UL, and how the bit shuts off when the bullet shots on.
I’ve endured some KABOOMS at Newton that make your chest want to cave in!
But - I’m not inclined to get in a verbal argument with an armed redneck! SOME things are better left alone, best - avoided.

Yeah cars are one thing, but you usually don’t spend gas money just to drive on a quiet road and meditate. Fishing?.. now that’s just sacred, the quieter the better. TD, thanks to my work schedule I fish on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning now and can’t praise that enough. The fish even act like fish those days instead of scared ghosts. I do get some looks from old-timers though, yes, I do have a job, I just work every Saturday. The one drawback is my boy has school on my fishing days. I have to steal him away every once in a while (fishing with your dad is more important than a 2nd grade perfect attendance record IMHO).[angelic]
Well said. The only bad thing about moving to a quieter place, is that being a fellow tuber myself, it is a bit of a pain to kick all the way back to the car, unpack all my stuff, deflate my tube, pack it all up, then drive to a new spot and then get all my stuff together again. By then the annoying people have usually moved to the new spot 
I avoid weekends too though and I’m usually okay. At least up in Idaho there are a couple of small reservoirs that don’t allow motor boats, so I’m usually safe.
