Heading to the Uintas Tommorow. Any Reports?

We are thinking about making a trip up to the Trial Lake area of the Uintas. Has anybody been up there lately? We are going to fish from tubes with flys.

What are your favorite places to fish in that area?

Thanks!

Fished Washington Lake last weekend. Took the pontoon boat out and had a hey-day catching rainbow, brook and tiger trout. We were using powerbait, worms and a panther martin spinner. Didn’t realize how deep that lake is. The finder said 80 ft. in some spots. Didn’t get a chance to fish Trial Lake. But I’m sure it will be good fishing. Good Luck.

My favorite lake is Alexander on Spring Canyon road. Make sure you have something to get out in the fishy areas {pontoon; tube; etc.} and throw some 1/16 ounce maribou jigs. I think this is the best “drive to” lake in the Uintas. Brook trout range from 12 - 17 inches and healthy! But fishing will be slower than say; Haystack; where you can catch dozens of 10- 13 inch brookies. Take your pick!

OK, I might need some help on this one…
Alexander Lake is accessed “easier” from U-150 and Haystack Lake from the north end near Washington Lake, right? Does the road become a rocky trail for the most part or is it passable? What happens to it during the obligatory afternoon rain? And, as you reported, they are more difficult to fish from the shore. Are there any along Spring Canyon that you can fish from shore?

Thanks!

I fished Trial Lake Thursday, along with Washington, Trail, and Shadow lakes. There are a lot of fish in Trial Lake, and they are hungry. We fished with flies and spinners and had great success. The only problem is that there are many, many, small pesky fiish that grab your fly or lure before the larger ones can get it. If you are taking any children or youth with you, they will have a great time!

Actually it’s easier to reach it from 150 down by the Duschesne tunnel. There is a turnoff just east of the sign. It says something like Alexander lake- 4 miles. You will probably want 4 - wheel drive the last mile to the lake though; just for clearance. I really don’t know of a lake that I would fish from shore ; but I’ve never tried either.
