I’m planning on hitting pineview in the next few nights for crappie. What equipment is necessary? Are glow jigs and things the key or will they hit non-glow jigs? Also what type of heaters and light sources work the best? I know this night-fishing thing sounds crazy, but any info would be appreciated or PM at dryfly77@msn.com.

I have tried Utah Lake at night on the ice but have met with little success and frozen toes. I blame it mainly on the water clarity, Pineview might be better. I would take one of those green fish lights and try that.
[:)] hey there catfish77 i purchased a submersible led light last spring just fot crappie fishin.. i used once this season at pineview through the ice with limited succes but that was early mornin too . aside from the ice i used it on the soft water several times with great results. once the light goes down in the water the aquatic insects start to appear which in turn draws the bait fish in which in turn draws the bigger fish in.. as far as jigs or ice flies i would try any techno glow rigs up to a 1/16 an down to a 1/64 .. techno grubs or worms to accompany them as well.. also use them in tandem form bout a foot a part usually works 4 me..as far as a heater ya cant go wrong with the mr. buddy.. lights – head lamps ,flashlights, an lantern ? .. but beware when tryin to call in crappies at night with a light the toothy predators that lurk in dark will come after what ever you may be drawin in too the mighty light.. i would try any where in the narrows in 30 ft or better o water.. hope my advice can help .. fishamaniac..
Do tell more of this submersible light. I am intrigued to know the brand, price, where bought and any other pertinent information that I may need to know. I am curious about how a light would work with perch since they pretty much shut down at night.
Used to do well fishing crappies at night on Willard by putting out two or three propane lanterns. But, that was in shallower water. The crappies in Pineview are a lot deeper.
Think about this…a long cord with a submersible light is going to get tangled virtually every time you bring up a circling crappie.
[:)] i purchased the light outa cabelas.. not sure of the brand.. it a 18 in led green mag light though .. runs off a 12 v batt.. and can be very effective if used the right way .. like tubedude said pullin up circlin crappie while havin a cord with a light below can make a mess real quick like.. ive found that usin it at one end of the boat creates less problems an 4 usin it on the ice .. i drilled my holes ..lined up my shack on em .. than drilled another hole bout 10-12ft away from my door parallel with the ones i was fishin outa.. didnt have any tangles whatsoever.. an the fish were all over the finder but were not interested in my offerings other than the light.. like i said that was early mornin too..goin up at night could be a different story..as far as perch fishin goes i have never done well for them at night even with a light.. its been proven over an over perch are not a known night feeder.. hope it helps.. fishamaniac…
