Has anyone been to mantua lately?

I haven’t seen a post on mantua in a little while. I was thinking about taking the family up there this weekend just wondering how the edges are and if the bite is still there.

I wouldn’t expect a whole lot.

Last I herd, lots of water on top of the ice for some messy conditions- and the fishing has slowed down considerably. Generally speaking of course.

A lot of water on top makes for a miserable trip. thanks lavaman

I was there Tuesday and no water on top of the ice, but there were a million people there and I didn’t see one person catch a fish in an hour. I packed up and went to Hyrum and did well.

Thanks for the info I’m not quite sure where we will be going this weakend but I will post about where ever it is

I ride by Mantua every day and it looks like the crowd has really dropped off but I go by at about sundown so I’m not the best source. But there are other options now so I think that has spread the crowds out a little. Good luck where ever you choose. J

Don’t go over there! If I spent 2 hrs and only got one lousy bluegill it would be a miracle if anyone did extremely well. I went everywhere including places people don’t usually walk to LOL. There’s millions upon billions of fish in there, but the snow has blown off the ice. Too much visibility. They are extremely spooky.

How well? And what does that mean - bows, or did you find any perch? I’m really hoping to find some perch there today!

Did pop by Mantua last night - bright moon, SLICK ice - got my daughter on ice - first time EVER walking on water, and she LOVED it. She’s not gonna fish, but she does wanna come skate. Shoot - with new snow, mighta missed that window! We’ll see!

We just walked on from the beach/boat launch area - good thick ice. Almost looks like the water level may have dropped. Glassy - but fully frozen solid. Even w/o the skates - she woulda let me pop some holes.
Had meant to stop by Willard, but we missed it.
We saw maybe a dozen “spots” on the ice about 4pm when we headed down. But I’d bet the fish are “learned up” pretty good now on “what not to bite”.

So - I’ll be off to Hyrum this morning! Gotta Roll!

I went yesterday (Jan. 6th) and put a hurt on the gills, Caught around 40 in 3 hours. Ice was SOLID! There was between 8-10 inches of clear ice everywhere I punched a hole. The guys around me were all doing well too!

We went there today, fishing seemed to be fair for us. We caught all perch and rainbows, not a single bluegill. Didn’t keep too many perch, they were fairly small and the good eating size are hard to come by. My cousin did manage to catch a 15 inch rainbow, pretty good out of Mantua if ya ask me! We were using pink and orange glow ratfinkees, tipped with a wax worm. Ice was clear, a layer of snow on top made it a little slick. Happy fishing!!!
