Has anyone fished The gorge in the past 3 weeks and if you have how did you do?
I’ve been out nearly every day since April 28. No skunks yet. Best day was 13 in the net from 18-35 lbs. Slowest day was one 28-pounder on Saturday. Its been ok on the days with glass-calm water. Crowded days have been tough. Windy crowded days have been very tough.
Was there a couple weeks ago, anywhere from 2 to 6 in a morning, should even better now.
Sounds like you have been doing good, What were you using as bait?
Jason, Jim doesn’t use bait, not even scent. Do a search under his username and you will find a wealth of information.
I will do that, Thanks for the information.
Jason: I’m fishing jigs with no bait. Mainly tubes, but also some stick baits now and then. Just to update, Monday and Tuesday have been noticably tougher this week. Fish have been moody since about 10 am Monday morning.
Hopefully I will beable to get back fishing there, when the fishing picks up a little. I would love to catch one of those trophy sized Mac.
I went up there the last weekend of april and fished for a day and a half. the first day we pick up only 8 fish 2 kokes,3 lakers, and 3 bows off shallow points around anvil. The next morning we went back to the same area and caught a bunch of bows and then in less than 30 minutes we caught our 2 limits of kokes and were headed home. We were trolling various types lures. The majority of all the fish were in less than 25’ of water.kokes bows and lakers
How big were the lakers that you caught.
Since this post is still warm, I can tell you that this week has been a little tougher than “normal.” Good conditions and not too crowded, but moody lake trout that won’t stay in any one place very long. Monday morning was hot for a while. We caught 6 nice fish in the first couple hours, but just a fish here and there since then, even in the mornings. My one angler this week has boated about 20 fish in the past 4 days, though only 3 today.
That may sound good to many of you, (and it isn’t all that bad really) but this guy is the best Mack fisherman that ever steps into my boat, and we usually do much better than that during his weeks. He also hasn’t got one bigger than 27 pounds this week, which rarely happens during any of his weeks of fishing with me. We usually get a few in the 30’s. The other guys I’ve spoken with this week who know the program out there have been saying the same thing. Getting a few, but tougher than expected. On a 1 to 10 scale, I’d give it a 3.5
Just remember, what happened today, yesterday, or last week has no bearing on the fishing tomorrow or the next day or the next week.
BEST NEXT TO WHO? YOU DID TEACH HIM DIDNT YOU? I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION YOU WERE THE BEST THAT STEPS INTO YOUR BOAT. AFTER 10 PLUS YRS FISHING WITH YA HE SHOULD BE READY TO FILL IN FOR YA ON UTARD ARMY INVASSION.
Best next to anyone else I’ve ever guided. He has over 150 days of fishing with me on this lake alone, plus Canada and Florida trips. I taught him everything he knows, and all he knows is what I’ve taught him, so no bad habits.[sly]
And as for filling in, fishing skill has little to do with guiding. He’s never run a trolling motor in his life, and doesn’t own a boat or a rod & reel. Can’t tie a uni-knot either. But he’s a focused fishing machine when I say “drop.” And that’s all I have to say, he does the rest. 2/3rds of his bites end up with a fish in the net, consistently, year after year.
Now watch it Crossineyes, or you could be reprimanded and/or banned for felony post hijacking! Remember where you are. Discussion leading to further discussion is strictly prohibited![;)]
Yes if I caught one fish that was over 20 lbs I would be a happy camper lol, thanks for the update. Do you think the fishing will pick up in the next month or so?
IM A HIJACKING EXPERT. AND I HAVE ALL ACCESS TO THE BUTTONS. LOL[;)]. ANYONE CAUGHT ANY WALLEYE,S? LOL
Jason: It will pick up, go dead, pick up, and go dead for the next few months. Overall, from now through August is the best time of year for bigger fish. Day to day though, its unpredictable. Today was much better than yesterday. Go figure. There will be great days and terrible ones for the next few months. No day can be predicted.
Are there any good places for big macs near hideout? My boat is slow so I have to stay near camp. I would like to get a chance at a big one when I am there iln 2 weeks.
There’s three points straight off the campground. They hold fish year-round. Fish them early though, before boat traffic creates 2-foot swells.
I will hit them early. Thanks!
