I am going to be fishing the Green for the first time tomorrow and needs some help on what to bring. I am going to be spin fishing so no fly stuff here. I will though be in the boat with 2 other fly fisherman. What works well on the Green?

Plastic minnows, Rapala style jerkbaits, and I’d guess tubes of some sort, maybe curly tail grubs worked along the bottom. I’ve never fished the Green but these are things I’ve been told in my searches for info on how to fish the Green without resorting to fly fishing gear. Good luck. I’ve heard fishing the Green at night with Raps is like topwater bass fishing… good stuff.
Tubes and Fin-S style jerk baits are great. Make sure they are unsweetened, no salt or other fish attractants are allowed. The freshwater basics brands are a good choice. Dark colors and just enough weight to bounce them along the bottom, too much weight and you will hang up a bunch. I let the current carry the bait along and when it stops I pick it up and reel up slack, be aware sometimes when it stops a fish has it and as soon as they feel pressure they will spit it out. Grubs work well but you are constantly changing jig heads to keep the grub near the bottom, I prefer to use rapalas as minnow imitators. Good luck.
I was there a few weeks ago and the only thing i could get to work was a gold blade with black body panther martin. out of two I fished one hour with that and caught five.
You can still use flies as wellj, you may need to put a small water bobber on.
Last year at this time I spent 4 days on the Green. Fly fishing was slow, I tried spinners and it was incredible. I was using a gold “The Fish Catcher” lure (bought at the Sportsman Expo) casting down river into the fast water and retrieving it back. I out fished the whole group combined. First day I caught 70-80 fish my arm was so tired. http://home.att.net/~fishcatcher/http://www.fishcatcher.com The continued to work whenever I switched to spin fishing. A rainbow Martin Panther worked for another person. The trick I found was retrieving it back on the seam between the fast water and the back edde. Good luck.
I fish the green regularly using spin gear and I’ve found the two best lures are #1 count down repala’s with no swivels or weights in blue and white and black and white or black and gold (4" size) #2 a gold with red spots jakes lure always produces great results on the green. Also in small frogs are present on the banks yet, a small frog flatfish works very well, ( usually more into june -aug) Good luck Lonnie
I was up there a few weeks ago and my friend and I were fly-fishing but he brought a spinning rod along for the ocasional cast, and he caught three on a Blue Fox spinner, so you might wanna take one along for backup
