Well this looks to be one of my last trips to the Gorge for this year. I’m headed up Friday morning early and takeing the local clergy with me “for luck” (the Bishop).
Just in case he doesnt recieve any revelations on where to fish or what to use was wondering if any of you have any suggestions. I know they are stacking up in Linwood but they have severe case of luck jaw. Any other locations one might suggest? Im not set up to jig very good so we will be trolling. We will be staying at the lucerne campground. Thanks for any help.
I’m no expert on the gorge, but I believe jigging is the way to go.
Big 1 oz jigs with a green flake body and clear sparkle legs in a tube design worked for me and it was my 1st time ever jigging at the gorge.
We were down by the dam, on an 80’ shelf that had a drop off into 160 ft.
You likely won’t do well trolling in Linwood. They’re on to that! I haven’t seen a troller hooked-up in there in weeks. You may get a few, but I wouldn’t try trolling there.
I’d try Antelope and Swim Beach, or perhaps Sheep Creek Bay and/or Hideout in the canyon. If you want to fish north, Anvil and Marsh Creek areas would be a “lock” for some 2-8 pounders. 60-80 feet, and take a good book[;)]
Now if you were jigging, forget the book and bring the small (3-inch, 1/2 oz.) tube jigs and get 'em!
I was hoping for some expert advice. I am going to be camping at the rv park in dutch john I have a small 16ft aluminum boat with lead core trolling lines a fish finder and top water gear. I will have my wife and 4 year old daughter with me. I am looking for some “pup” macs 2-7lbs trolling. I have rapalas, some RMT stuff, spoons and pop gear to use. Where would you suggest I go and any lure suggestions would be appreciated. If you would prefer to keep it private a PM would be great. I do suffer from CRS (can’t remember sh*t) so your secret is safe with me. Thanks in advance!

Orvis, I sent you a pm earlier at the other place.
Troll those points and humps near the dam. Lead-core is going to be hard to get deep enough with Rapalas and spoons though. 10 colors minimum, which means 100 yards of line out, a lot of weight from the 10 colors, and a lot of time where your lure is going over nothing in no-mans land. The key is getting the lure to the fish, not so much what the lure is. Anything fishy, like rapalas, spoons, etc. does work. They’re not picky, but you have to get it on 'em, and they’re still pretty deep (60 and down for the most part). Use something you can troll slowly with so you won’t have to let out 100 yards of line.
I’d put a tube jig, streamer fly, or very small swim bait (storm wildeye, etc) on your lead core, drop it down to where the jig hits bottom, and then troll as slow as humanly possible, letting out enough line to stay deep. Then, you’ll likely only need to let out 200 feet of line to stay 60-80 feet deep. You might need to hold the rod and set the hook with that though.[;)]
