Golden Trout!!

I’m new to this website!! Can anyone Please Please help me catch a golden trout in utah???

Welcome. If you look over the last few months there was a discussion about the Golden Trout. I have never caught one, so I do not know. But I remember people on the site discussing it recently. Good luck.

Only place I know of is the high Uintas. That’s where most of the guys have been getting them. PM Loah , he’s the best one to get info from on those fish.

Thank you!! I need to catch one before dec. 31. I could use all the help i can get[:/]

Echo lake and alot of brookies to golden ratio? Maybe Atwood Res. Has some left overs. Windrivers for sure.

[;)] If your still looking we spent the last week camped at Stateline Res. and caught a few. They were biting hard at first light and just before sundown. Rainbow’s hit off and on all day. Good luck.

where is stateline res.???

There are golden trout in stateline res.?

I have to catch the golden in utah that is the rules for my compition. The bet is to catch all fish species in utah by dec 31. So far I have 30 but need a few more. A golden is very high on my list. Any pointers I can get will be GREAT

i have to ask the same thing… perhaps they were albinos/palaminos

Sorry, but they were not golden trout at Stateline Res.

I agree, no Goldens at Stateline Res. Check the the stocking records. Utah has none to stock and probably can’t or will not get any to stock. A very difficult fish to fill the slot. Does it have to be in Utah?

Yes, the rules of the comp. Say only fish caught on hook an line an only in utah count

PapaJerry,
Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. I imagine the “golden trout” you caught were the albino or yellow rainbows that DWR stocks in some areas. They are very confusing to many as a lot of people call them “golden” trout or even “banana” trout, but unfortunately they aren’t the same as the “Calif Goldens” that were planted in the high Uinta Mts a long time ago.

I hope you will share more of your trips and I for one would like to see some pictures of Stateline and your fish.
Thanks again for trying to help out.

Thank you!! everyone for your help. If anyone can think of anything else PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! asap my time to catch one is running out[:/]

You probable only have a month or 2 before you’ll need a snowmobile and ice fishing gear up there. I’d be up for another trip to get a picture this time around. Send me a pm if you have some dates and you want to try it with me. I hike the last quite a bit because while I’ve made it in many times with my older Subaru I won’t try it on my newer Subaru. An older vehicle with 10 inch clearance or a newer one with a foot is what you need to drive in these days.

That’s the other option is to use a vehicle with about 8 inches of clearance that you don’t mind abandoning or burning :laughing:if worse comes to worse. That was my approach when my old Subie had 180,000 miles on it.

I caught one in the Murdock Basin area a couple years ago. I’ve gone up there once a year for 14 consecutive years and only caught one of them. Thousands of brookies though. Good luck
