My boat is winterized and I’ve thought about getting my Sea Eagle out but decided against it. I’ve bought a new Minn Kota 55lb thrust trolling motor for the Sea Eagle, so I really want to give that a try. My old one started giving me trouble this past fall. Bought a few new plastics to try for Bass and Crappie. Thought about going up and fishing from shore so maybe I might give that a try. I’ve reading all the posts of the guys doing quite well this winter. It’s been a weird year weatherwise. I’m thinking that soon everything is going to change and we will start getting snow and a late and wet spring.
Anyway, for now, I will just have to keep busy painting watercolor pictures.
In my post-cancer state of feebleness, I may not get to go anywhere but Willard and maybe Echo this year. But I intend to hit those Willard wallies hard, and maybe those Echo smallies. So I’m concentrating on rigs for those two species. Bottom bouncers, drop shot, ned rigs, jig and plastics, slip bobber, and wacky worms.
If I decide to brave the nutso wave boats, I may head to Hyrum for some largies. That may do it.
I’ve been purging the old the warn out and tying more leaders. Been working on a couple of downriggers and straightening out the boat now that I have my new knees cooperating with less agony. The itch has been there since winter wasn’t to be this season with no change
I’ve had the itch so bad I got batteries in boat ready , had it out twice , jumped in brothers boat with him several times . Also had a good day on the Water with RedRebel in his boat. Great guy! Now some leader tying, tackle rigging and reorganizing with a bit of rougher weather ahead! Then back on the water
No itch yet. Too busy enjoying shooting 2 or 3 days a week at the Purgatory Shotgun Range in high 60 and low 70 degree weather. Then it will be a trip to Texas for the spring turkey season. Might get the itch sometime in April.
Just got the yearly full detail of the boat done getting ready to go through rods tackle and get a list of things to replace these nice days got me raring to go hope these next storms produce.
Im definitely anxious to get the boat out again. I’ve only been on the ice twice this year due to being busy and a lack of said ice. I have my boat under wraps and could have had it out all winter so I too have been buying copious amounts of lures in anticipation of hitting the lakes again. My problem is I buy stuff I think I need, then get home and go to put it away with the 10 other items I already had. Oh well. I figure Ill end up using it all at some point or another.
Congratulations on a fine talent. I’m envious; the only thing I can draw is flies.
Back on the original topic… I just got a shipment of colored beads for making walleye worm harnesses. WAY more than I’ll ever need, so if anybody needs any, just ask.
Rocky what mm and colors are the beads ? I just ordered a pile and the are a bit smaller than I thought they were. They are 4mm glow fluorescent or, red, pink, green etc. I Was going to order some larger ones but the QTYS are way more than I need. I’m making Kokanee and some walleye rigs as well. Maybe a little horse trade could be arranged?
I bought 1000 asst of fluorescent and glo colors 4mm I think it was 7.99 that will
Last me years lol
I may buy an asst of 5mm maybe 6mm too then I can mix and Match depending what I’m working on.
Thx
The last year or so, I’ve been putting beads in a lot of places I hadn’t before. TubeDude proved that a bit of color can dramatically improve strike chances. I’ll put one above a dropshot hook, for example. I’ll use one (with the line through two times) as a stopper below the float of a slip float rig. As a buffer between a sliding sinker and a knot. Above even a bluegill worm hook. Red and neon green seem to work best for me.
In exploring the Walleye Supply website, I have discovered a world of interesting supplies for lure making. One in particular is their wide assortment of foam floats that could be used to make catfish rigs or floating worm rigs. Search for “rig floats” to see and then let your imagination run.
