gar fishing in a river close by

well i have a river close to my house i always go fishing in and see gar every where on the surface but i never know how to catch one..whats the best way to catch them?

Well, as you can see, i posted the same question, but I decided to do some research, and i found this is one of the best ways to catch a gar- Use a small treble hook with a minnow around 3 three inches long. Hook the minnow in the back around the top of the tail, then add a float(If the current is rough, use a weight instead of a float). If a gar hits, let it run a little ways before setting the hook. While it runs, it starts to swallow the minnow, making it easier to hook. If you need other info, visit this site- http://www.garfishing.com/http://www.garfishing.com/

hope this helps,

The Gars will also hit on Spoons and Jigs.

Walmart sells a brand of spoons called Krocodiles. Get a 2oz size with the Prismatic tape on it. It have used that color pattern in Alabama, Florida, NC and SC.:sunglasses:

i heard frog and pieces of chicken are good bait for alligator gar
