**I know this does not have anything to do with fly tying sites directly but it does have to do with materials to tie flys.
What type of natural materials do fly tyers look for or need? Specifically, some of you are hunters and as such have access to pelts etc from the animals you hunted. Of those animals, what are the best ones to keep and use for fly tying (deer, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, pheasant, geese etc??)
These AK Best fly tying tips will help many. But some of the tips work better for production fly tiers that are immensely concerned about fly tying speed.
Just about all the animals you mentions have material useful in one way or another in tying flys. What do you have to offer? Hey I have a Husky and her lose hair looks like it would work in tying some flies. Any body ver use dog hairs?
My son in law hunts thru the year. I was curious if any of what he hunts would be useful for tyers assuming the hides/feathers etc were prepared properly (hed have to check with a local taxidermist for that)… I was not offering directly just seeing if anything would be of use in case he does save stuff for me…
[sly]My neighbor has a big dog that barks.
It’s white with lots of loose hair. Abou the color of Polar Bear.
If I can ever catch the noisy SOB, we’ll have lots of that White Dubbing to share.
Hi Mac I was just funning with you about offering some live material. You might want to tan or salt down any hide material that might receive. Otherwise it will draw creatures and not smell to good.
I am just not sure if he is willing to keep and dry out deer tails and feathers and etc.. if he is I would be more than willing to share… I know materials can get expensive so if I can help I am willing to… now just have to convince him…LOL
Actually lunkerhunter2 is mailing me some material from different game that he has recently bagged. Together with what I have on hand I might be able to open my own supply depot. LOL
That is not my intent.. but not a bad idea …lol.. I will have to check with him and see what he is willing to do … few years ago he saved several deer tail and sent them to my brother in law.. have not heard from that brother in law since. LOL…
