As I said earlier, this will be a very interesting event. When I was running Team Tournaments, about 20 years ago, I tried on several occasions to get the guys to fish Utah Lake, but could never get anyone to give it a go.

This will be a real challenge for these kids. The lake will be dropping, the water temps will be rising, and if the wind blows, the water will be ROUGH.. That was always the deciding factor for my events, no one wanted to deal with the rough conditions when the wind blew !! Utah Lake can be a real hazard when the wind kicks up.

I am sure that FLW has no idea what the conditions will be like on UL in late July/early August. I would guess that the decision was made based on the location to the major population centers and the size on the map. None of them have been on the lake and I doubt that anyone has ever fished it.

Sure Powell or the Gorge would have been better, but those are so far out of the way and it costs a bunch to run events on them, Utah Lake looks like a cheap alternative.

So, all of you come out and support the kids from UVU, cheer them on, and we’ll see how it goes, I’ll be out running the boat for em. See how smart/dumb I was thinking that UL would be a good venue for a Bass Tournament

dont know that much about the talent of college kids but in the old days southern boys would only dominate in shallow pools and struggle in deep clear lakes,i hope it is the same i suspect usu is a big fish in a liitle pond

The cool deal is that this year there’s already been 2 tournaments with 20+ boats in them. Pretty successful if you check out the weights. I wonder how the 2 weigh ins per day is going to work with a big event like that.

The trick is the lake fishes small for all of its enormity.

Those tournaments were also scheduled (in my opinion) at the best time of year to fish utah lake for LMB.
