I was just wondering if there were any recent reports for the gorge? My buddy and I are going there Friday and Saturday. We are going to troll for the lakers on Friday, then head over to wyoming for the burbot, then back to trolling on Saturday. I was thinking of trying Mustang, any other good spots for the Lakers? I have heard they are catching the 30 pounders in 15 feet of water, using floating rapalas. Any other lures you know they are hitting on? I want my buddy to have a good time, since last year was a bust for him. Thanks guys.
I heard they were catching 15 lbers in 30’ of water !! I see you are new to the board. You will NOT get info on catching bigger lake trout on this forum…trust me. And whatever you do, DO NOT post a picture of a dead mac over 10 lbs. You will be crucifed and the thread will be locked in about 4 hours !! But seriously, the guys that creally know the Gorge have put in many hours and many YEARS of fishing to learn that lake. Dont take it personaly if you get no responces to your post. I would look at past posts, but the best way to do it is to get out there and try different things. It has taken me years of learning the lakes and techniques for mac fishing and I still suck at it !!! The Gorge has a decent amount of nice macs so dragging around a J-13 in rainbow may produce a nice fish…or not !! Good Luck

Jacksonlaker, when I read your reply, I got kind of anoyed at first. But when it comes right down to it, I must admit that, for the most part, you are right.
I would, however, like to add that most of those guys who are able to catch a few BIG macks now and then, many of them have hooked up with one or more of the guides up there. The guides have paid their dues and the customers have paid their dues to the guides.
What I’m saying here is that the best way (and least expensive way I believe) to get a good idea on how to catch them big ones, is to pay a guide to show you the ropes.
go get you some 4 in rapala floters in the vampire color or blk and silver blk/gold run them behind your rigger about 100ft-150ft troll 1.6mph up to 2.5.key is to just keep them out of the mud maybe bump the mud every now and then? swim beach is loaded with 30lb fish so just troll the paint of your plugs and you may snag a fish or 2? if i was you and you wanted a chance at a 30lber I would hit swimm beach and antelope flats!
Especially since Swim Beach and Antelope Flats are the only ice-free sections except the lower canyon!
I bet by the end of the day it has more ice free water! may have to launch from the bank but its been done before!

lucky for me my dad taught me to love fishing and shared his knowlage with me or anyone eles to let them catch more fish or just enjoy the sport. never tryed to sell his fishing spots..or keep secrets.

Joevanoni, I agree with you–I was blessed with a father who was a first class sportsman as well as a gifted angler. Like you, my father taught me how to be a good sportsman as well as a good fisherman and hunter. We fish to catch fish and enjoy the experience, not compete with each other and delight in other peoples’ failures. I’ll share whatever information I have and teach whatever skills I’ve learned to make others more successful so they can have more fun. It’s disappointing when some people are secretive and competitive, as if sharing information will somehow diminish or invalidate their own accomplishments, when the reverse is actually true. If scientists guarded their research like that, we’d still be living in caves.
