So ive been hearing a lot about the rainbow fishing in the marina at the gorge and am pretty dissapointed about it. It sounds to me that its basically a fishing farm. Am i the only one that thinks its wrong to catch these rainbows in the marina when its so easy? I have fished before in the marina when the rainbows are there but i actually catch them, not snag them like the other 50 people that are there. i think i went home with a dozen or so flies that i pulled out of the fishes back. i just wanna know what everyone else thinks about this.
it happens at the berry even worse. as long as they putt back the snagged fish and are snagging on purpose no law is broken. but i hate to see it as well.
I was at The Gorge over the weekend, and was disgusted by what I saw --a bunch of toothless yokels pulling fat rainbows off the launch ramp and surrounding area.
It was unsporting, and unsafe --made it very difficult to load / launch a boat, and I was just waiting for some idiot’s line to get wrapped around my prop.
What ever happened to the “no fishing from the dock / launch ramp” signs? I am typically the last guy that wants more rules, but this is getting ridiculous…

I agree With you it is a bunch of crap that people snag the fish like that and it is a pain to launch you boat up their when their fishing on the ramp plus they don’t move. my dad use to always have conflicts with people fishing like that or parking on the boat ramp
It all depends on how things are done…if a fisherman is catching the fish through legal means and is not intentionally snagging fish, I have no problem with what he/she is doing. If, though, a fisherman is intentionally snagging fish, it is wrong. Also, I don’t see anything wrong with someone fishing in a marina or on or around a boat ramp as long as that person is respectable to those wishing to launch their boats. IF the fisherman moves and allows others room to launch and continues fishing after boats and trailers have moved, I don’t see it as a problem. To me, it is about respecting and obeying laws and recognizing where you are at…

We were at Lucerne… To further clarify, we are all in this to have fun, and I certainly don’t go to the lake looking to nitpick or start fights. However, it was pretty ridiculous Saturday morning when we put in, and that evening when we pulled off. Tell me how you would respond to this?:
Saturday at 5:30 PM we pull into the marina and my buddy hops out to get the truck. When he backed down the ramp, there were so many people on the ramp that the only place to put the trailer was on the far left-hand side between the dock and the metal wedge. The metal wedge was on an angle (angling toward the dock, leaving about a foot of clearance for either side of my 8-foot-wide boat), and the famous Flaming Gorge afternoon wind was in full effect… I had a judgment call to make…
DO I:
- Yell for the people to get out of the way.
or
- Have the trailer put in a little more shallow than usual so I can negotiate the dock and metal wedge with a little extra rudder authority.
I voted for option 2, as I could see a LOT of empties around the lawn chairs, and the last thing I wanted was a fight (after 10+ hours on the water, I had other things on the mind)…
The boating gods were on my side, and I trailered the boat without incident. However, looking back, I am more than a little bugged when I think about what that friggin’ metal wedge would have done to my hull… (The top of it looks a lot like a cheese grater).
Another boat attempted to load after us, and a woman on board did not have the same concerns about drunken hot heads that I did. Results were predictable: swearing, flipping-off, insulting of female relatives, and challenges to fight. Gotta love Manila!
Wow, this is very disappointing to hear. As we all know ramps can be a busy stressful place, I really don’t need people sitting on chairs when I’m trying to back in the boat. Why does the Marina not try and control this? I fear that someone could get hurt. I’m heading up there for the weekend and now I’m not looking forward to seeing the dock…

Hopefully by next weekend they will have the rest of the marina assembled (they were putting docks in the water all day Saturday, and were preparing to float out the store). Once this happens, I can’t imagine the chaos from last weekend continuing.
Now, onto the good stuff! Fishing was pretty slow (we were targeting Kokes, but know that it is early and did not expect much). Between two boats we landed three Kokes, three small macs and two rainbows. Fished from the Pipeline to Hideout.

I was up there this weekend as well… landed tons of fish yes they where all hooked in the mouth.. throwing flies.. Yes you had a bunch of idiots up there snaging them and keeping them… they where just so stacked up in there it was insane, what a rush tho they fought hard i put all 38 i caught on saturday back and all 28 i caught sunday back for more for next year i personally think it should be closed for them to spawn

I am not risking my boat for some drunk. The boat ramp is intended to launch and retrieve boats. If someone gets pissy with that then they are idiots. Maybe I’ll start carrying a MK7 size of OC with me when I launch ha ha.
CF bowhunter, the rainbows in the Gorge are a put and take fish. They are stocked anualy so you and some big macs can eat them. They do not spawn naturaly in the lake. They try, but the conditions are not favorable. For those of you that like to eat fish these rainbows are just as good as the Kokanee. They eat mostly zooplankton in the lake and their flesh is red like a salmon. So dont feel bad about taking a few, they will stock more next year !!
I don’t disagree with anything you said except perhaps that "toothless yokels " stuff, no need to resort to that. Also keep in mind, this is “bow season” at the Gorge its the best shore fishing for bows and people know it so, count to 10 and ask nice and generally they will move for you. I took somebodys line with me when I launched a couple weeks ago and he swore but it was he that had to make just one more cast. I had the same problem at three of the four ramps I used that trip and don’t remember seeing any “toothless yokels” just a bunch of happy smiles and excited people. Heck one guy at lucerne caught more fish in the time it took to launch than we caught the whole weekend but like you I wasn’t fishing for bows. Good luck on the next koke trip.
I fished at cedar springs boat launch with my nephews and almost had the place to our selves. The only problem I had was the marina guy thinking he owned the parking lot. I have never seen anybody snagging at the ramps though. Sunday we hit sheep creek and it seems to me that the run might be ending soon.

The Marina should be closed to fishing for the rainbow spawn, , just like linwood should be closed for the laker spawn!!! [;)] Its a joke that the people are all over the ramp, guess they can’t catch em any other way uh![crazy]
