We are having a family reunion July 1st-5th at the Gorge.
I have only fished it 6 or so times and never been very productive. Not looking for large fish just somewhere I can take people since I have the boat. We will be at Lucerne and the rest will be up at buckboard. I know a ways apart but I like the powered campgrounds and was the best I could find.

I guess I owe you a debt of thanks, Holly just told me who you were.
I guess the grand kids are going to be the focus on the trip. Set of mixed twins 5 and grand-daughter 11 who loves to throw rapala’s. I think if I was pointed in the right direction, I could possibly find the fish. I would guess smb or rainbows.

The bad thing about that link, its all 2 years old or older. So that dont help us on where to go now, especially after all this crazy weather. Plus most of it is just results from people that have hired a guide. Not much info given by them. [;)]Hoping someone who has been there recently can point us in the right direction.

Holly,It is old info but focus on the location’s and the names of places then look for a good map of the gorge that shows the names,Most likely the rainbow fishing and the small mouth fishing should be great in july. Standard trout gear and jigs for the smallies should keep the kids happy,tell there arms get tired.[;)]
I was there June 17-20th. It was my first time at the gorge and to be honest the catch rate wasn’t that wonderful but the scenery more than made up for it. I was the only experienced angler in the group so most of the time was spent trolling.
We camped in Hideout and did most of our fishing within 3 miles of the camp. There was a LOT of pressure on Friday and Saturday and I didn’t see anyone having really great success.
Our best luck was when we hit the canyons and found schools of kokes on the fishfinder. We’d then troll back and forth through them using leaded line and downriggers to get down to their depth (30-120ft depending on the school). Pink spinners and needlefish tipped with a mealworm at 1.5-2mph worked the best. We got about 2 fish per hour, all between 14 and 18 inches. Even though we were targeting the kokes, we still got about twice as many rainbows. Not a single mack, but I didn’t really target them because I rarely had someone on the boat with me who could help me land a big one.
One of these days I might know names to thank people. But thanks for the tips. I went to the archive and was looking around the same time of year and did pick up on some helpful info. I found out a friend of mine that is a fishing nut will be up there the same time and said he could help out.
You are right fishinfool it is so much more rewarding to see others in your party catch fish, even though landing a few yourself is ok too.
I am going to take the “old-coots” suggestion on Willard tomorrow with the wife, she hasn’t even been in the new boat yet. I hope I can get into them again,she loves fishing and our days on Strawberry pulling 50+ fish each has her spoiled, but that is a different story. And with the climbing temps down here the berry looks pretty good here soon.

We got High pressure,South winds,and no moon the wipers should be biting at first light then it gets a little tough during the day and then comes back on in the evening,wipers will start to be more active during morning and evening thats when you will want to be on the water.Some guys even fish late into the night and slay them.
I have yet to get a good bite after dark but trust the guys that are telling me that its the way to fish when the summer time heat sets in.

gb10, I was fishn the gorge 2 weeks ago. Got tons of bows 1 - 3 lbs. trolling crocs and J-7 rapalas in orange, gold or rainbow. Fished mostly the hideout area and into sheep creek. Caught a lot of pup macks from 2 lbs up to 15.5 lbs. Hardly any kokes but we got a few. Hammered silver w/red or orange seemed to work good for us. Used the lowrance to find the fish. Spent one day at Anvil and did well with the bows and a few baby macks, thats a little closer to buckboard. While I haven’t made it to buckboard yet this year I have had very good luck up there in past years for lots of kokes in june. Have a fun time. Wish I was still there [fishin][crazy].

Were you long lining or down riggers? I was thinking with the (2) five year olds maybe a worm or such for them.
My 11 yr. old Grand Daughter she is happiest throwing a rapala or jig.

I was also at Hideout June 18-21. We did OK for Kokes till Sun. when we found a great school and nailed them with leaded line and downriggers down to 50’. We used UV peewee purple and some cotton candy squid with pink Gulp maggots. I think the maggots did the trick as we started catching after I remembered to add the maggots. A few Bows were caught and no macks. I had my brother in-law and his boy with me and my son. The in-laws had never been out before and it sure was fun to get them on the fish.
gb10, we were downriggin 20 - 60 ft. we always had at least 1 pole just longline’ n but when it finally caught something it was usually the very small rainbows. It did catch a few with a craw colored deep diving crank, wasn’t worth the time. Haven’t fished with worms for a decade or two but it always used to work.
