Taking the boat out for the first time this year don’t want to drive to far. Maybe 2hrs, I’m thinking real hard about Yuba. I want to try Willard but the reports of water depth and poor fishing in general are scaring me away. As far as Yuba goes, I’ve never fished it. Would love to try for all species. Any not so secret spots[;)] you are willing to share? If any one else is there on Sunday, I have an old Mark Twain Tri-hull, white w/black trim. Stop and say “Howdy”. Also, I have read several posts about painted rock area and the island. How is it up lake near the narrows and the dam this time of year?
The only other lake in the area that might be ice free by Sunday is Deer Creek. Not 100 percent sure it will be ice free by the state park boat ramp. Any reports there would be great also. Thanks everyone, lets hook em’ up this weekend. Looks like prime fishing weather!
I would go to Utah Lake if it was me. See how the catfest goes on Saturday. Yuba is still pretty cold. I stopped by yesterday on my way north and fished for about 20 minutes. Not even a nibble. It’s plenty full though, they’re even letting water out now.
im hitting utah in the smoker again. unsure if ill hit lincon or lindon. wait till i see the sat reports before i decide. most likely hit the l then burn out to bird island for some chanle action on the north side in the catfish heven hole.
Our open water options are slim. You can try hyrum that is ice free, we are going to starvation, I understand by the island the ramp is open and the water is open as well. The ice monster should be gone from some of these lakes in the next couple of weeks, can’t wait!
I fished yuba last weekend water was 42 degrees and the fish were not biting, I saw about 4 other boats out and not a fish get cought. Hyrum has open water and there have been reports of fish being cought.
Maybe I’m missing something or I’m a complete idiot. Yuba through the ice was HOT for perch, fair for walleye’s and northerns right? So why is it that when the ice comes off the water is “too cold?” I understand the fish are not real active but you still should be able to vertically jig for them…right?
I don’t know what to tell you we tried just about everything and not a single bite, its a mystery to me because we hammered the fish on the ice twice down there this year, if you give her a try I wish you better luck than we had.
I am headed out to yuba on sunday morning.Gonna take the boat out this saturday at the catfish fest and see how it runs. If everything runs right i will be at yuba on sunday for sure.There are a few spots that i know that used to contain fish almost always but since it got draied things might have changed.Either way i need to do some exploring.I will be in a tan crestlner.
