Fishing 101...postponed

:sunglasses:Thanks to all who offered to help with the session we were trying to get together next week. Turns out we had a lot more willing instructors than potential students. So far nobody has responded as wanting to attend. Certainly not enough to justify having a bunch of capable instructors show up to donate their time and have nobody to talk to.

Maybe when it gets warmer we can do something on the order of Catfish 101, Wiper 101, Walleye or Perch 101, Cooking and eating 101…or whatever.

On another note, for anybody who is involved in the DWR Youth Angling Program…or any other youth group…I still have a large box of the little yellow “hook safes” provided by BFT a couple of years ago and not all used up…yet. Anybody who wants to stop by my place to pick up a bunch is welcome to do so. If you have not seen them, they are little triangular yellow plastic containers that snap together over your hook when not in use. They also double as casting weights.

Ok, Keep us posted. I was thinking that it might turn out to be a “fishing party” and not a whole lot of students. Hopefuly some will join in and we can have a fun day out on the water with both teaching and learning.

The Orem club would love to have some. Sent you a PM.

if you did a walleye 101 i would be all over it!

**Well, if there’s no public classes, I don’t suppose you’d continue with the private tutoring? LOL
I still haven’t tried another crappie class this year.

FishKillr thought the hook safes were bobbers…I wonder if they’d work for that, too. They are hollow, after all.
**

We should try it out. I had never seen those before I met ya…I have learned some cool stuff from ya. When the weather warms to your likeing we may have to visit bountiful with your Safe Bobbers…

:sunglasses:Hey sweetie, you know I am always available for ongoing assistance…when we can get our busy dance cards together.

But, you already gradiated from 101. Further sessions with you are more like 911.

Bratty little kid.

I’m not really so busy, as much as the weather is always so bad! When is it gonna stop snowin’??

ROTFL!!! Amen.
But I refuse to give up… I’ll be good at this junk eventually!

Bratty little kid.

I gotta come up with a witty compliment for you, one’a these days [;)]

First I’d like to introduce myself. I’ve fished all my life, but I still don’t know much about the sport. I love it and always have though. I’m a student at BYU and I graduate next year. I’ve been “lurking” on BFT for about a month now and trying to learn what I can. I REALLY want to hook into some big cats this summer. I’ve been reading Tubedude’s posts trying to gain all the wisdom I can.

So…I would be proud to be a student at your fishing 101 event whenever that would be. I have a tube, waders, flippers, etc. But I have never used them. My dad gave them to me last year because he no longer uses them. I’m gonna break them out this weekend though.

Anyways, keep me informed about any float trips or classes you feel like inviting some newbies to.

Thanks again. I’ll make a better introduction this weekend with some pics of fish…hopefully.

:sunglasses:Welcome aboard. The above quote pretty much describes me too. I have lived longer, fished longer and probably have a wee bit more experience than yourself…but I still learn more with every new trip and from each new angler I meet and talk to. And every new thing I pick up just suggests that much more that I still have to learn. But, what a great ongoing learning experience.

Although I cancelled the “formal” session, I continue to maintain an open invitation to any and all who want to come visit and discuss any particular aspect of fishing in which they delude themselves into believing I can help them. I have quite a few fellow BFTers who show up from time to time for some “booster shots” on one subject or another.

If you are just getting into tubing, you might wanna schedule a trip north to the tubeatorium. I can show you how I have our tubes set up and can look over your gear and probably make some suggestions to help you save some time and frustration. Shoot me a PM if you wanna do that and I will send you my address and directions.

I am also a former BYWooer. I heard that the girls who go there…go there because their daddies want them to. The girls who go to the U go there because their daddies want them to go to BYU.

Welcome to the site! TubeDude is an awesome resource and it will be cool to see some pics of things you do with your tube and maybe we can all share some water at the next float party this summer!! See you around!!,
