I am heading down to fish lake for the weekend never been down there. Just wondering if anyone one had some helpful hints on what to use down there to catch some Macs.
A few of us were sown there at the first part of June and did very poorly on trolling (however we did not have down riggers), but did pretty well on the far side using small white curly tail jigs or Icecutters tipped with a little Perch or Chub. We anchored just out form the weed line and would cast to the edge of the weed line and let it fall. Than bring it in on what I would say would be an average retreive rate. We caught several Splake and small Lakers. Sad to say nothing of any real size but had a lot of fun. We even had a small laker chasing a perch as I brought him in. My buddy managed to get a jig in between the perch and the laker and caught the laker. Ansd as always crawlers always do well. If you are renting a small boat rent form the main Marina they have the 9.9 motors instead of the 8hp’s.
I hope this helps

Thanks for the input I am going with some friends not sure if they have down riggers or not on their boat. Rumor has it there has been alot of rainbows caught down there lately, and Macs and Splakes are not cooperating to well right now.
I was talking to the kid at the dock where we rented the boat and he was saying that they had just planted it a day or two before we arrived. As you motored out you could see 1000’s of little hatchery pets. That is all we were hooking up with until we stared jigging the back side. I say get over there catch a couple of perch and turn them in to cut bait. After we did this we stared catching something other than rainbows and with a little more size to it. On Saturday when we brought back the rental party barge and were talking to another dock worker stating how we had down and also bringing in the fish we had kept he was saying that we were the only ones that were doing very well. The trick to that day was Ultra light rods and small white jigs. So do not be afraid to try different things if it is slow.

I was down there saturday and couldnt keep the splake off my lures. Also the rainbows were cooperating too.Caught them on powerbait salmon egg flavor they love that new stuff!! i fished the weed line on the west side .
I still say those are the ugliest planters I ever did see! [sly] They remind me of the small, bloated rockfish I used to catch in Cali! But even those were prettier than the hatchery bows at Fish Lake!
