Hi I have never been to Fish Lake (near Loa, Utah) before and I’m looking for some advice. I’ll only be there for one day and I’ll be fishing from the shore. What’s lures or baits should I use and at what depths?
First I’d like to welcome you to BFT Utah. There are several guys that fish it fairly often, hopefully one of them will reply to your post and give you some better info. Fishing from shore at Fish lake is though, at least it was for me when I was there last. You should be able to catch perch and maybe splake from shore around the weed line toward the northeast side of the lake. Worms and bobber should work for them. If you can find some clear shore line toward the north west side of the lake you might be able to catch some bigger fish by casting rapala type lures or even some spoons from shore. Good luck, I hope this helps but it might be worth it to rent a boat from the lodge. WH2

fish right off the main marina. its where i always go when im there and stuck on shore. use a jakes spin-a-lure. if you can cast to the weed line you should be able to catch plenty of splake. i do well like that. i was there a few weeks ago and managed 29 splake in two days and i never moved spots or changed lures.
if your from shoure you’ll have a tuff time of it at fish lake! twin creeks just north of the lodge is about the only brake in the weed line that ya can get to with out walking a long way.. and most day’s there is 2 or 3 pepole setting on it..
minnows casted out as far as ya can will hit a big splake or rainbow now and then.. or a worm on a bobber right along the weeds will get ya some perch..
good luck!
You can also rent a small boat as well. I would recommend doing this if you can. IF you do this just head straight across the water to the far side and fish the weed lines. After you have caught a perch or 2 cut them up, and tip your baits with them.
The best advice i could give is wait until it starts freezing at nights before you go. Summer sucks at fishlake unless you know something me and everybody else i fish there with doesn’t. Shore fishing at fish lake can be good at times of the year. I don’t think august is one of those times but you can still hit some nice splake and rainbows if you find the right spot. I would fish the area around lakeside marina, the weedline is further away then it is by the lodge and about 6 or so feet deep at the front edge of it. Don’t know how it is this time of year but that would be your best chance to access the decent sized fish.
