wow i must say for Yuba being managed as a walleye fishery it realy sucks!!
but as a pike fishery it’s top notch right now!! went over again yesterday to give the pike a try..
trolled for most the day for 2 long line releass and 2 pike in the boat! first one was about 22 to 23 inchs and around 3 lbs.. the other one was 30" and around 10 to 11 lbs..
after one of the badest wind storms i have ever seen last night.. it died down some and we went in serch of the eye’s that have been said to be in there that no one can seem to catch.. well i must be no one becouse we came up with the big skunk on the eye’s.. not even a good hit..
so baged it and cought about 4 hours of sleep and was up with the sun.. my buddy cought a 5 to 6 lbs chanel cat first thing this morning fly lineing a chunk of perch. then he put it on the stringer about 1 min later i asked him to pull it up for a pic. but pulled up a bear roop. his knot had come undone, bummer no cat fish dinner tonight.. . due to the fact that i thought i had more gas in the boat than i realy did we did not get to troll today.. so we went down in the nearows and set up on some perch.. well ended up catching about 1 to 1 carp as perch.. the perch are not as big this year and are looking kind-a sick from what they were last year and throughout the ice season..
well had to get home early so we stayed tell about 2:00 and bugged out.. not to bad of a trip..
I had a feeling that was you parked by the narrows.I was there sunday with my brother in law and the fishing was tough.Could not get into the perch only kept 6 12inchers and that was it. No pike hits what so ever .I talked to 4 guys at work that were there saturday night and they had their boats beached and they got swamped with water. The wind was kinda bad on sunday which made the fishing tough but it usually makes the walleye fishing great. Its to bad the eyes are not in there in quantities like the DWR wants us to beleive. Gonna have to give yuba a try in2 weeks when i get back from florida have ffun slaying those toothy critters.
yeah i was feeling a bit sorry for them poor buggers parked on the beach east of the north state park..with all the sand blowing all over and the big waves hitting there boats must have been miserable over there.. we took cover in the nearrows on the a north faceing beach and the wind was just kick up all kinds of stuff .. i think that is the first time i have seen 4 to 5 foot waves on yuba.. i’ve seen it bad but not that bad before..
well the perch fishing in the storm was the best we had seen the whole trip there was a bunch of perch in the cove we were hidding in.. thats where we went the next day looking to get into the perch again but it was slow and alot of carp up in there.. i cought 2 carp that was around 7 to 8 lbs. both hit a jig tipped with perch..
yuba is the only place i have ever fished that the carp will hit: jig’s, spoons, spinners, rapalas, and minnows.. go figure [:/]..
I know what you mean about the carp i have caught them jigging for walleyes. I took my freind and his wife out there saturday and a 20lb plus carp took his jig head tipped with perch meat. bad enough it was a carp but he had his ice rod with him so it took forever to bring that bad boy in . Man those carp are fun to catch.[;)]
Dang Ron you got it goin at Yuba my friend! I need to find me a summer fish like Pike or Tigers, i’ve hit low tide for Macks, Splake, etc.. 12 inch rainbows don’t really excite me either. Enough about me, nice fish again keep it up!
well if your looking for a chalange go give the pike a try at Yuba! lol
it is one of the hardest lakes i have ever trolled.. the one addvantige i have is i have been trolling it for years.. i’m fishing for the pike the same way years ago i trolled for the Walleye there.. and we did catch alot of eye’s draging j-9’s through the rock’s there.. but now i have a good fishfinder so i’m not as surprized when i start doing the snag drag..lol
oh and insted of j-9’s we are useing shad rap’s and j-13’s but doing the same thing just drag it around tell ya find what works..
