Wanting to head out this weekend with the boat looking for some open water any news on East Caynon?
I was up to East canyon last weekend and there was no place to launch a boat as of yet. I am thinking a few more weeks.

drove by there today and there is about 75 to 100 yards open water in front of the boat ramp and othere areas are opening up but there is still large chunks ice floating around, you couldn’t really get any where that you couldn’t fish from the shore (unless your crazy)but i am willing to say that for sure it will be open next weekend, maybe if you have some spare time to take a chance it may be ready by sunday. Rock port for sure won’t be ready till atleast next weekend and echo has open water all the way from the dam till about 100 yards from the boat ramp and then has pretty rotten broken up ice up from there towards the inlet. talked to the people on the phone about jordanelle and they said it gots at least another week or two.
Thats really good news, can wait to get back up there.

Hey. I’ve never fished east canyon before, but my in-laws have a membership with the resort / campgrounds so I’ll probably be trying it out soon. Any info on what to use, where, and what kind of fish are in there would be appreciated. I may even see if I can tow the boat up there…or figure how to get it AND the camp trailer up there somehow.
We go up there a lot in the summer and have done well from the shore for rainbows, and from our pontoon boats for smallmouth, and crappie. We mainly fish the no wake zones with powerbait & spinners for trout, small tube jigs with scent for crappie, and soft and hard baits for smallmouth. We were up there last Sunday and fished from the shore at the inlet by the edge of the ice and caught three nice bows. It should be ice free in a week or so. Fish on!!
How big are the fish in there?
I was up there on Friday and the ice was coming off. After all the wind we had in the last two days I would just about bet vital parts of my anatomy that the lake is cleared off. You could have launched a boat there on Friday.
Now the fishing, on the other hand, sucked! My buddy caught 2 little dinks and my son and I got the skunk.

My wife and I have caught some nice bows off the shore. There are some pictures in the trophy room of them under my profile. The SMB we have caught have been in all size ranges as well as the Crappie. Here is a pic of my buddy that caught some Crappie last year just before dark. Fish On!!

Talked with some friends that stayed at EC all weekend in their trailer. By the time they left Sunday morning they said the wind had cleared the lake of all ice. It’s time to crank engines.
