Hey all -
Well I went up to East Canyon this morning and had a good day. First off I couldn’t sleep so I left about two hours earlier then planned. Left my house around 0400 and headed up the weber canyon in the pitch darkness.
The drive itself was one of the most amazing parts of the day, Was going along and saw a deer around a sharp turn, Stopped fast as possible, Lucky I did … I counted 17 deer all gathered in the road and wouldn’t budge. Then once I finaly spooked them off the road I nearly hit three more that jumped out of no where. Went about a mile more and a single junior was seriously just walking down the center of my lane and it felt like I was in a race with how if I moved over to the other lane so did the deer.
Then I saw a family of three porcupines crossing the road, right then I noticed that they are almost as fast as turtles!
Got to my spot at roughly 0450 and decided to sit in the truck for a bit until the sun decided to wake up a little bit. I figured I would put together my rods and get everything ready to assualt the cove I found to be excellent for my type of fishing.
Once I got on the water it was fast fishing till I left. I caught 12 Bows from 11 to 17 inches but all had a horrific amount of the worm tears on them so I only kept two 14 incher fattys for a dinner I have planned tonight.
Caught one bow that was roughly 15.5 inches that was seriously a dark charcoal color. I know that they come in many shades and such but this was definitaly the darkest I have personally ever seen a bow, it was almost to dark to recognize the pattern.
I was curious though is anything being done to try and kill the parasites that are attacking the trout? They look very painful for the trout. It would be nice if we can figure out a way of helping them.
Saw something that annoyed me. A hole pile of BIG bows all obviously had been on a stringer when they died because their gills where all funky. A group just caught them all, let them die then left. I am talkin 10 or so nice 15+ bows and only three of them seemed to even have worms. So I don’t know what that was all about.
I personally have not caught a trout from East canyon using spinners or spoons, and I have tried alot, but many others love them on this lake It is all personal choice. But it is red hot for bows using “Corn Yellow” or “Flo Orange” powerbaits off the bottom.
I put the Powerbait on a tiny 12 gold treble just enough to cover the hooks and form a small worm/tail.
I suggest trying that if your having issues because Two other couples came and fished near me and they were using powerbaits but didn’t catch a single fish the entire time I was with them and I was non stop catching. Didn’t take any pictures this time but was a good day of fishing.

Hit East Canyon early this morning still very wormy, very cold. Hot fishing with powerbait on small trebles from shore. Very fast fishing with bait, no hits on any tackle. 90% of Fish have parasite.
