We made a long-weekend trip down to Pensacola to target some bull reds and whatever else would bite. We found a great 3 bedroom place for only $75 a night right on the water with a dock and a boat lift, which was nice with 3 folks splitting the rent. We went offshore a couple days in 3-5ft seas and caught amberjack, red snapper, bonito, and just about got seasick one day when waves were 4-6ft…just about too rough to fish at all.

Inshore we found a nice bit of structure in the bay holding bull reds and snapper – it quickly became a favorite area to fish and on the last day every one caught several bull reds and we also limited out on slot fish. Live cigar minnows on sabiki, fresh netted menhaden, and bucktail jigs were the baits that worked best. We also found a place where we could catch white trout on every cast, which tasted similar to speckled trout.

We grilled fish two nights and brought home plenty of fish for the freezer. Although the weather did not cooperate with fog, rain and high winds for my sons first venture offshore, it was a very productive trip with lots of great fishing. Water tems were around 65 inshore and 70 offshore.

I am thankful I had the opportunity to take a few days off work and spend some time with my son and great friends. Some of my favorite pics below - I may try to post a video later in the week. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
