Been watching this sight for sometime and thoroughly enjoyed the posts. Decided it was time to throw the hat in the ring and add my two cents.
Spent two and a half hours at Willard Monday(7/24) night with my kids. Bank tanglers most frequently. Got my three year old boy’s pole rigged and helped him toss it out. Using red sided shiners for bait. Within three minutes his pole starts jerking around a bit. Assisted with a hook set and let him reel in the biggest fish he has yet caught. Turned out to be a ‘cookie’ catfish,TubeDude special!! He was excited, although the picture may indicated otherwise, and anxious to catch another fish.
Put him on hold for short time while I finished rigging my daughters pole and assisted her with a cast.
Ten minutes later my daughter belts out she has a fish and sure enough she does. Had know idea what she had caught. Figured a larger catfish and figured wrong. She hooked a wiper. First wiper ever and biggest fish for her to date.
Spent more time rigging and helping my kids than I did fishing. My other son who came with us ended up like I did, smelling skunk. However, couldn’t have been a more pleased dad with what my two kids we caught. Left at 8:30 after the power squadron had repeatedly cruised the stretch of shore we were fishing.
Success nonetheless!!!
Welcome to the site, and great report. Always good to see the next generation of anglers getting hooked!
Your daughter made several experienced anglers jealous catching that wiper.
Nice post! Welcome to the site! Good to see you were able to get your kids on some fish. Thats almost as fun as you catching anyway, right?
fishingboarder, I was one of those anglers with a tinge of jealousy when she caught that fish.
Jdawg, I would take seeing the excitement of seeing my kids catch fish over anything I could catch any day. Not enough words to express that kind of satisfaction!!
Thanks for the welcome..
Welcome - nice report. As said (mistake I’ve made too many times) make the trip about THEM, and they’ll wanna do it again. Glad ya got on some good action - that’s some serious bendo in your daughter’s pole there! And we can see why - nice wiper. As said - lots of “wiper wishers”'d be jealous!
Red Shiners - are those the “preserved” bait fish you can get in the plastic packets? I’ve never hooked up on those, though for some reason (don’t need a cooler) I keep trying them from time to time.
One suggestion -rotate- I’m getting a crick in my neck!
Very Nice! Good to see someone catching something out of Willard. Welcome to the site and keep up the good fatherly work with those youngins’. You can take your kids fishing, but very seldom do you get to fish with your kids.
