Anybody fish deer creek today, specifically over at Charleston? Just wondering on ice thickness and safety prior to making the trip tomorrow. Thanks ahead of time to any info.
Was there this morning, lots of people. Ice was good on way out. Coming back in lots of water coming up on ice. That was like noon . Probably only got worse as day warmed up . Fishing was good !! Ice about 5 inches thick . BE CAREFUL__SAFETY FIRST !!!
You did not say how you did? How about pics! Sounds like a beautiful day!!!
The Deer Creek people chased everyone off the ice at Charleston, and maybe on the rest of the lake, this afternoon and said it was too unsafe, people had been falling through. I noticed there was no snow on the ice just a thin layer of water and very slick.
I may have to get out on the water with the boat soon then. I wouldnt mind getting into some trout, its been quite a while since i have fished for them.
Is there open water on DC to take a boat on now? If it is open what marina do you use?
Thanks
There was a patch of open water 100yds off the main ramp and a sizeable area off Charleston at the mouth of the river but no place to launch yesterday afternoon. It may not be long if we get warm weather and wind.
Charleston 7:15 AM Ice still questionable. about two dozen people on ice, but high winds drove most of them off. Saw may buckets, hats etc sacrificed to the wind which carried them onto unsafe ice by the inlet. Ice 4-5 inches with soft spots and some open water surfacing onto the ice close to shore.
Rainbow Bay 8:15 ice a little better, little pressure. 5 inches
No one with fish that I talked to.
Walsberg arm - ice better at 8 inches with fewer soft areas. Upper several hundred yards of arm is open. and where it meets the main reservoir is also open. Saw three fish on the ice and marked one more with flasher, among a dozen fisherman.
I was there the day the person or persons fell thru. Ice was fine, 5 inches at least. The person who fell thru was way to close to the inlet. I wasn’t there when he went for a swim but he was probably about 75 yards from open water if not closer when we left. Sad that one or two peoples ignorance or stupidity ruins things for the rest of us.
yea that guy didnt pay to park in charlston either and got a ticket on his car when he left i seen him go in and was getting a rope when his buddy pulled him out with a hand augar
