Deer Creek what are they

Fished Deer Creek today caught a lot of rainbows brought 5 home I did not want to keep that many but did
in the picture put a tape on one he was 19" may be one there that is 20"
most we got was 17 to 18" one time had 3 on at the same time.

using 4 downriggers caught all down between 9’ and 16’ I was in a lot of fish, what was weird was watching my live scope
would see them they would be up high and get close to the boat and dive down about 10 to 20 feet
I was in water that was 35 to 25 feet deep. I saw a lot of fish deep but could not catch any below 16 feet.

in the snap shots tell me what kind of fish are they on the bottom I saw a lot of them but could not catch any.

Just read on FB, there is ice on Weston and a couple of lakes in that area.

Hey Curt, good to see you back on line… Hope you’re doing okay… I’ve been watching the Weston posts, I haven’t ever fished that pond and it looks like a bunch of foot work to get on the pond, but it’s almost worth it just to get some ice time in… Lance, you been listening to my phone on the discussions between me and the wife??? She’s always concerned over my early ice ventures and I guess that’s fair I’m a little concerned as well… Much more fun when you have over 5 inches of safe ice… Pretty unimpressed with the ice build up so far this week… I suspect my maybe on the post will be a pretty long shot about now… But I hope I’m wrong and we do get some ice… Will be watching closely… Later Jeff

I haven’t been to the Idaho board for far too long, I’ll go check it out… Thanks J

So I was wrong, checked last night and it looks like the ice in Cache Valley is not going to get thick enough. It did grow on my farm pond to 1.75", but went to check Cutler and where it had had some ice earlier in the week. It now has open water spots in many areas… So pretty much looks like it’s not cold enough to build a layer I feel safe getting on… I was so in hopes this would give us an ice sheet this weekend, but it’s not going to happen where I have checked… May have to go to Idaho if I want to ice fish, or get the boat out… Leaning towards the boat myself… I have a hectic weekend so I don’t dare get far from home, but I would like to try a couple hours Saturday morning… Later Jeff

It had skimmed over last Saturday, I asked some others to take a look, but I haven’t heard back yet… It usually is around the same time as Mantua…

Curt, rumor is two brave or low IQ guys with their dogs were fishing newton yesterday… Last I heard they hadn’t fallen through, however it sounded like really thin ice… Shovel strike went through with one strike… Hopefully it will continue to thicken with 20 degree nights, however the  40 degree afternoons can’t be good on it… I can tell ya this fat bob isn’t going to walk out on there to check it… I’ve had 3" ice on Newton sag on me and start to sink where I was fishing so I’m not pushing the sub 2" stuff… Guess I need to leave those “Tw_inkies” alone… Later J

Curt is there anyway to shut off that automatic wink and sad stuff that the editor throughs in there… It’s okay if that is what you intended, but where those letters are in the middle of the word and it just throughs in the face, that is frustrating…

Funny Curt, when I was younger I was a lot more careful on ice than I’ve gotten as I’ve got older since I’ve started to see where the actual breaking points are, but I think watching my Dad go through the ice in front of me made me overly cautious in my early days and since then I’ve seen enough ice time that I’ve started to understand better what usually holds, but I’m still too nervous to try that really early thin stuff even though I know early ice is tougher, but I don’t like to get wet and probably can’t get out like I could have at a younger stronger age… But it amazes me how often those that don’t seem to pay any attention to ice conditions seem to get away with playing on some really sketchy stuff… But every so often they don’t get away with it… I prefer to stay on the safe’er side of things… I know every so often I find a spot to stick a foot through the ice and I try to recalculate what I’m doing when that happens, just keep hoping to never find a spot to do the polar plunge and drop below the ice sheet… getting stuck below the ice and burning to death are two of my don’t want to dos… Later Jeff

Okay I may be jinxing my future, but did you happen to see the weather report post Wednesday?  My crystal ball is showing ice coming to a low level reservoir near you… Typically if you add the high temp and low temp and divide by two and if it’s say 27 or below, you will build ice… fast enough you can fish it within a week…  So my prediction is the crazies will start fishing Mantua about the 12th… or maybe 11th if they do the 2" stuff… I’m thinking if the temps hold to the predicted numbers, the weekend after next we’ll be able to get on the ice…  Just hope those temps will hold, I really want to get some ice time this winter…  Later Jeff

If this holds we might get four weeks of ice this year… short, but better than nothing…
