Deer Creek ice??

Has anyone driven by DC within the last few days? I’m itching to get the boat out on the water, but don’t want to drive from Ogden to DC for no reason. Lots of ice, or a little ice? Unfortunatly the webcam that was supposed to be working April 1st, still insn’t working. Thanks in advance [;)] Fred K.

Drove thru on Sunday, island ramp north to bridge pretty much ice free to the south frozen. Hope this helps.

I fished it last saturday, it was pretty frozen but maybe by the end of the week you’ll be able to get a boat on it. The ice had a few good cracks so it should open up soon. The fishing was really slow however, I had one bite in the first 30 seconds that I was there and lost it, and then nothing for about 2 1/2 hours so i went home. good luck though!!

I drove by there today the east side past the island is fishable by shore or tube or toon. Still plenty of unsafe ice on most of the lake.

I drove by tonight and noticed that the water is rising and is now at least to the ramp at the island. Not enough for a boat though. I say a few bank tanglers and two in tubes on the east side of the island.I’ll keep an eye on it for ya. I live in Heber and drive by DC daily.

Thanks guys! I was hoping to get my boat wet this weekend, but DCs not sounding like the place. [:(] Fred K.

Please do update us. I am trying to decide where to go this Saturday and was thinking of hitting DC. I fish from shore so I’m sure that there will be some spots, but it may be crowded if there is limited shoreline.

thank you

Fred,

I went up with my pontoon on Saturday. Beautiful day, open water from the East ramp, out past the island and all of the East end. I fished most of the morning and then got trapped by a sudden wind that pushed the ice sheet up against the island. It was all down hill from there. Five Taiwanese guys saved my life and carrie dmy boat back to the camping area. It should break up this week, though. Fishing was still slow as the water is about 34 degrees.

“Five Taiwanese guys saved my life and carried my boat back to the camping area.”

Where do you store them on your pontoon? I’ve never thought about bringing some people along just to haul my toon around. You are a genious! You must have an unreal weight capacity on that thing.[;)]

joking aside that would suck! good thing theres nice people still out there. Thanks for the report and welcome to BFT.

I must have seen you there Saturday then. I was on my fishing raft and passed a guy on his pontoon talking up a storm on a cell phone. [;)]

As far as saving your life… is that an exaggeration or what happened? Since that little bay closed off, I just went around and deflated my raft on shore then hiked it back to my car. No problems.

I took a couple pictures from that day, there at my other reply here:

Ryan,

attached is the pontoon that I use. You will notice it has a motor, 12 volt deep cycle battery, sonar/battery and lots of gear. When the ice shut the island off, I thought it would be easier to pull it around the west end than tear it all apart and make 20 trips carrying it. Bad choice. I got hung up in the heave ice on the west side of the island and couldn’t go either way. Luckily the guys came along to help.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the update! I’m really hoping that this weekend the evil ice will be gone up there so this season will finally get going for me
A big thanks to the guys that helped you out. Definatly good karma for them. Last year I towed three disabled boats back to shore. Every one of them offered me gas money, which I refused. I figure that one day it will be my turn with my nuts in a vise, and some help from a stranger would be most appreciated [;)] Take care, Fred.

Where did you get the registration lettering on your pontoons. It looks like they stay on there pretty good. I have always assumed that with the shrink and expand of the pontoon that they wouldn’t be an option.

And if you don’t mind me asking, how much is it to reg. every year.
I have a fishcat 9 also with a motor but have never registered it and was thinking I might this year[crazy]

I had the reverse decals made at Fast Signs. They have adhesive backs. I then applied them to the pontoons and painted the letter/numbers on with a rubber based paint. Then you just peel off the decal and it leaves the paint. It’s been on for three years without any wear so far.

I think the registration is about $37, but I got caught at Willard Bay one time for not having a registration for a motorized craft and it was a $50 fine. So, I’m playing it safe. I got tired of carrying the dumb plastic things with the letters on them…

Hope that works for you…tight lines.

ok I’ll have to try that if i register it!!! thanks for the info
