Just wondering how the edges are looking at deer creek? planning on going up on sat. Thanks for any information you can provide!
They were solid as can be a couple days ago. In fact I went along the edges to avoid the 8 or 10 inches of snow. The morning was very cold and crispy. That makes for good ice.
I think we are good at Deer Creek for at least another 4 weeks. It is over a foot in most places and it continues to be cold at night up there.
We are going up there this afternoon. Any suggestions for slimers? (trout) We were going to try north of the island. Is rainbow bay any better? If anyone has any info on a good spot let me know. Thanks
We will be there on Saturday. Be sure and post your results so we know what to look forward too.

We’ll be up there sat probably in rainbow bay. Fishing for trout and perch. I have never had perch but I hear its delicious.
Cool, We will not be Early Early, but should arrive at about 10 AM. We plan on going to Rainbow Bay area and trying out for perch and rainbows. Maybe we will see you there and share some ice.

We were up at DC today fishing a little N of the island til 4:00 pm. The edges were solid with between 2-6 inches of slush depending on where you were. Ice was 7-8 inches and 4 inches of snow covered the slush. We caught mostly rainbows (7 total) on nightcrawler tipped jigs and one 11 inch perch. Not really fast fishing but enough to keep you interested.
Oh man, you don’t know what you are missing. After you eat perch (or bluegill or crappie), you will throw rocks at trout! Good luck on the perch. A buddy of mine did ok around the bay for bows and perch. Perch were deep (as usual) and size varied from french fry to decent “eater”![]()
We got the lake about 1:30pm and got all setup by 2pm. After about 15 minutes we saw a couple of fish in the cone, and we have one hit. Small rainbow right off the bat. Thought it would be good. We set up in 30 feet of water north of the Island. The fish were about 15 to 20 feet. At 3pm I got bit and scored a really nice fat rainbow. My buddy have a couple on and lost them. After that it was slow. Some fish came to look but just turned away. We were using small chart and white tubes, powerbait and a coulple of ice jibs with meal worms. The fish hit powerbait and my sand tube jig. The jig was tipped with meal worm.
One guy to the west of us caught 6 fish all afternoon.
Not great, not horrible, just a little slow fishing day.
Well see ya there. This summer we were trolling and caught some 16-18 inchers just north of rainbow bay trolling at 45ft. if we dont have luck we may try there… cant wait.
Thanks for the report. Any day out is a good one. We will have to share some Ice and/or H20 in the future. We will be there @ 10 AM on Sat and hope to find some fishies who wanna play hookie. I think we will have some other BFT’ers out there so it should be a fun day either way.
