Decided late Saturday morning to go fishing. We went to the first Deer Creek launch from Provo only to find that it was closed due to low water. The ramp was totally fenced off so that you couldn’t even launch a small craft. We then decided to try the ramp by what used to be the island. It was closed as well, but it was not fenced off and some people were launching boats from the bank just to the side of the ramp. The lady at the entrance told us that someone had tried to launch a boat the night before and went too far into the water and got stuck. When he call for the rangers to pull him out they told him they wouldn’t do it because launching was at his own risk. He had to call his own wrecker to get his car out of the water. After our discussion with her, we decided that we drive up to Jordanelle instead.
We arrived at Jordanelle only to find that there was a “free boat inspection” going on. My fishing buddy wanted to take advantage of the free inspection so we were delayed again. After about an hour later we finally launched the boat. By now it was a little after noon. The wind came up strong for a while and then would ease off. This happened all afternoon. However, we had a great time catching the “bows” trolling crankbaits. We caught them nonstop all afternoon with silver blue-back minnow cranks, and silver black-back minnow cranks.
Were the 'bows decent size or just planters? I live in Heber and just might take a trip up there this week sometime.
thanks for the DC launch update Lloyd. I might not fish DC this year the way it looks now. later chuck
I believe most of them were planters, but I don’t know when they were planted. They were extremely healthy fish. The average size was about 14" and a few were larger.
Chuck,
I don’t blame you. It is a too bad, I was looking for our yearly walleye hunt! The woman at the gate says that it will even get worse before it gets better. They are supposed to start letting it fill up again after the Fall.
LloydeE,
I can understand why the Park Rangers didn’t want to help someone in need. If a couple of the rangers left the break room to give someone a hand, all the doughnuts would be ate by the crew in the break room. Our tax dollars at work. Zugbug
