Fished in 45 ft, about 1/4 mile south of the island. Steady action all day with the trout and a school of perch would pop in every now and then.
Genz worms, rat finkies and nuclear ants in green, pink or orange were all good. Fish weren’t too picky though.
There was no pattern to the trout other than they were suspended. We caught them anywhere between 10 and 40 ft. A sonar is a must. Perch were on the bottom.
took home a 3 person limit on rainbows. All were between 12-15 inches. Released probably 40 more.
Got a wicked sunburn too.
Oh yeah, there was a foot of good, solid, black ice and 10 inches of snow/slush. Take your waterproof boots.
Was the water dirty? How deep was the water you were fishn.
It was a little murky. Depth was 45 ft…
+1 on the waterproof boots. Might as well take hip waters out to be safe. I went through someone’s hole tonight and was soaked from foot to knee. Fishing was too slow to keep me there for long.
I had similar success and similar conditions at the main boat ramp this afternoon. Caught lots of trout, suspended anywhere from 5 - 30 feet. I was in 60 feet of water about a 100 yards out from the boat ramp. +1 on the waterproof boots, I had to make an island made of snow around the holes that I drilled to keep my boots out of the cold water. I fished from 2:15 or so to 5:00 and caught some very healthy trout, though most were from 12-15. Maybe waders is not such a bad idea for future DC anglers. I started with a glow/chartreuse cutter bug and finished the day with the orange one. Like MichiganA said, the colors were a non-factor today. As long as your jig is tipped with something, they’ll hit it.
When you say the main boat ramp are you talking the one just outside of Walsburg bay by the campgrounds?
We fished near the island today and it was somewhat slow. We only caught four rainbows.
The slush monster is alive!
