Currant Creek 1/10

Hi all,

Loaded up my son this morning and headed to Currant Creek. Arrived about 8:30. Got down to the ice without dumping the sled and got some holes drilled in about 45 feet of water just out from the dam. Started marking fish every 10-15 minutes. No specific depth, all through the column. Caught a few, but not real fast.
After a couple of hours the fish just stopped coming through, so we hiked out to the cove on the east side. Set up in 10 feet of water and caught some more. I ended the day with nine, my son with four. Guess he has lost his touch. Love it when I can out fish him!

Weather : AM chilly with a little wind, PM nice
Ice : 10 inches solid, slush minimal
Bait: glow jighead tipped with mealworm or crawler
Road: plowed and in good shape
Fish: two 6" tigers, the rest were colorful cuts 12-16"
Crowd: about six other groups

Great day on the ice!

was it very crowded and did you try any type of ice fly.

Thanks for the report. That can be a fun little body of water and I’ve been wondering if anyone has ventured up that way yet this season. Good report.

No, not crowded at all. Maybe 6 vehicles in the lot. They didn’t plow the big lot by the restroom, just the road down to the gate on the dam.

No I didn’t try any ice flies. If I’m getting bites on what I have, I seldom change out of curiosity. Most of the fish that would come through would at least give me a tap, so I stayed with what I had, and worked on the hook set.

Fished two poles, one dead stick, the other some jigging. Both did equally well. I tie up six rods the night before with what I think will work, and go from there when I get on the ice.

Thanks for info. every littlebite helps

What is the road to Currant Creek like? Would I be able to make it in a two-wheel drive van? I’ve been staying away because I didn’t think the road was cleared.
