crazy fish stories

me and my dad were thinking back on fun times fishing and id like to hear some of your crazy fish stories…these are some of mine (these are a 100% true)

first, i went to deer creek, fished off the shore with my dad 15mins there bam fish on…i fight this fish for maybe 2mins, it wont come in look at my dad his pole almost goes in the water we’re both fighting fish, as our fish come in closer our lines get closer, soon enough a 5lb rainbow has both our lines in his mouth and when we land it we notice a third line in his mouth that had broke off from a previous fight

second, ice fishing at scofield, my aunt catches a fish so my uncle comes over to help her they get the fish on the ice and it had a line wraped around it and my uncle says hey im using this same jig looks behind him and his pole is gone and so he poles the sting and fishes up his own pole. hahaha

Third, shore fishing with my whole family and my older brother catches a fish nothing new, he lands it and after a minute checking it over.we noticed it had a line in its mouth that wasnt his, as the fish was swimming by the line in the fishes mouth had a swivel on the end of it and my brothers hook caught the eye of the swivel of the fish swimming by.

And the most crazy one yet, troling with my grandpa and my uncle, my uncle gets a bite that poles his pole into the water so nothing we could do we start fishing again we fish for hours and so we decide to make our way back to the harbor and so we’re troling in the same spot my uncle lost his pole and my grandpa gets a bite so he sets the hook and starts to reel in and he had hooked the top eye of my uncles fishing pole…and the pole still had the fish on it and the funniest part was my uncle and grandpa we’re fighting over who’s fish it was. haha.

Good stories.

Here’s mine:

I’ve caught 2 catfish on a bare hook in the same day. One time when I lived in Arkansas I went out and set up a couple trotlines without baiting them. About a week later I went to go bait them, and to my surprise I caught a catfish on each trotline on a bare hook. Go figure.

Once I hooked into a nice bass using a $6 lure. He broke me off, and I was so mad I drove my boat about a half mile away to a different spot to target some different species. After about an hour I hear a big splash over next to the bank. So I look over and something catches my eye hanging in a tree thats about 4 feet above the water. I motor over to check it out…and it’s my lure! The bass swam around for a while and finally jumps out of the water and shakes the hook which lands in the tree. I was really happy to get my $6 lure back.

Once while night fishing in Arkansas I was sleeping on my boat when I was awakened by a clank and a splash (my pole going over the rail). Somehow in my groggy state I knew exactly what happened and without thinking I jumped off the boat and start swimming after my pole which is now torpedoing under water. My buddy instinctively grabbed the spotlight to help me. After about 30 yards of swimming for all I was worth I grab my pole and set the hook. I’m treading water with my feet while I’m trying to reel in what I think is a giant catfish. After about 10 minutes of this I somehow was able to work my way back to the boat where my buddy was able to net a 20 pound drum (trash fish). After all that I was pretty mad that it was just a stupid drum. There’s more, but those are my favorite.

I cant believe a fish story with out a picture or the true body of the fish. lol

One time while fishing with my grandpa at strawberry he hooked a big ol cutt and of course kept it. At the end of the day we went to the cleaning station and staring cleaning the cutt and as he was taking out the guts he found the top half of someone’s thumb!! So we take it back to the marina and ask if anyonne had reported any accidents. A week later we called just to see if anyone had mentioned losing a thumb and sure enough a guy had lost the top half of his thumb in his prop! He got it back but obviously it was to late to try to attach it but made for a pretty good story! Good times

You got no proof. I could say I caught the Utah small an larg mouth bass record but to lazy to tell any one about it. See how believable it is when I say something and there’s no proof behind it but little lies and stupid fake fish stories.

I’m sure we all weren’t thinking we need to get pics at the time so we can post it 15 years later so someone will believe the story. Your choice to believe or not. I doubt that it will take away the joy we get from the Memories of these stories. After all, that’s what my favorite thing about fishing is, making memories.

i caught a beer on the south platte above spinney res in CO fishing the brown spawn about 10 years ago. it was one beer on the plastic 6 pack holder, ugh… thing. was still cold too. i did not take a picture of it therefore it must be a lie, right?

Great Stories thus far.

My favorite:

#1

Last year, spring fishing Deer Creek from the shore. Hooked a nice fish, and began reeling it in. Then realized that I must have snagged a log while reeling in, because the line got really heavy, and no longer fought like a fish. Bummed out, I slowed my retreival speed, and shot my friend a “DAMNIT!” look. Then I felt the “snag” take a dive to the right. So I continued to reel it in, hoping not to break my line. Sure enough, when I got it in, my line had wrapped around a rather large log…but the end of the line I still had the fish attached to it. Same day, we decided to hit Rockport, I managed to do the same thing as listed above, but with a smaller stick. My friend now calls me “fishstick”

I also remember the time I went with my dad out to Vernon Res as a kid. He was going to teach me how to fish a lake using a fly and a bubble. On my first cast, I hooked myself in the butt, since I didn’t know that I had to use a side-arm cast. My dad laughs and says “let me show you what to do…” then as he’s casting side-armed, he snags himself in the back of the arm (tricep). I laughed, and said…“Oh, so I needed to snag my arm instead” We still both laugh about that one.
