Colby and I got up there for a couple hours early this morning. Started off fishing for spots. Got a good quick 5 fish limit of spots in the first 30 minutes with the biggest being a little over 3lbs. Caught 10 or so pretty quickly, then it just died for us. We decided to go for some white bass if we could get any to bite. We caught a few whites and a couple yellow perch that were good size. Colby caught a random crappie too, it was 14" long! After about 3 hours of fishing, we decided to head out and come back in the evening.
Around 3:30PM emoScratch we put back in. Decided we'd try for white bass for the rest of the day. We caught them here and there, they were biting alright. Colby managed another big crappie, this one went 15" long!
As it got closer to dark I had a good fish hooked, thought it was a decent white bass. As soon as Colby saw it, he grabbed the net. It was a big yellow perch and my new PB for sure! It went 15.5 inches long! Threw it in the livewell as I knew the state record yellow perch caught last year was only 14.75" long.
We made a few more casts without any luck and decided to head out. Took it to a grocery store to get a certified weight on it. The scale put her right at 2lbs… just 2oz from the record. emoBang When we got home, I weighed the fish on a cheap scale I had. That scale said 2lbs 8oz! I dont know, but one scale was wrong… Who knows… I just bagged it up and it's in the freezer now. I figured I would probably catch one bigger sooner or later.
We got some pics of the fish, figured I'd post about it. She was full of eggs and FAT!
Had a great day on the water, catching a good mixed bag of fish… which is always fun.
Also saw spurhunter up there, think he was following us around emoPoke emoBigsmile He was trying for some perch and was in a pretty good spot for them obviously. Hope you ended up catching a few!
