Conditions at Pinview?

Are the Ice conditions still good at Pineview?Or do you have to jump on the Ice like an Olympic Ice Jumper!Rockport you need about a 15’ plank or prepar to get wet, anyways any help about conditions on the View?

I went to pineview (cemetary Point) Sunday morning 0300 and left at 730 There was 18" of ice and the edges were solid, I dont know how they will be this next though.

Fished the Narrows by the caretaker house on Sunday about 9 to 1 pm. Solid edges and ice was plenty thick. Not very fast action.

Good Luck, and if you go, post the conditions you find please.

Are the Ice conditions still good at Pineview?Or do you have to jump on the Ice like an Olympic Ice Jumper!Rockport you need about a 15’ plank or prepar to get wet, anyways any help about conditions on the View? The ice conditions at Pineview are excellent. The edges are good and solid and the ice is at least 18" thick. Drove my snowmobile on at 9:00 AM and off at 2:30 PM today. It should be good for at least another two weeks. There is NO soft edge at the Port Ramp.

And FYI, the Port Ramp will be closed this Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Friday. Somebody is filming a movie on the ice at that location on those days. They have a security guard there and he told me this today.

I caught no fish today.

I know “Jackass” the MTV group were trying to get a permit to pull some stupid stunts up at pineview but i was told they couldn’t get a permit from the state…maybe they got their permit. They were wanting to cut a hole in the ice like the search and rescue does but cut 2 and swim between them…maybe it’s them???

No,they are filming a kids movie about Snowmen, thats what the security guard told me today.I pull up and the guy was sleeping like a baby.I thought I saw slauber running down his face, poor guy.Didn’t mean to wake him but when I saw him asleep I just had too!

I don’t want to be a PITA but what was the ‘real’ ice conditions…say shoreline…out on the ice was there slush…

…I was there last Saturday and saw them setting up the set or part of it…ice was 4-8" of frozen snow/ice combo… with i’d say 5-8" of clear and again previous ‘good’ black ice walked on top of it great…total 18-22" combined…snow cone ice is what i call it…So did you go out on the ‘ice’…and trod through yuk…think’n of mak’n the last hard deck trip to PV this weekend…

…inquiring minds want to ‘know’ about PV ice…again not to be a PITA…:slight_smile:

I don’t know what it will be like this weekend, but on Monday the ice was great.
I measured it at 22" down in the narrows.
It seemed to be a bit wet though.
When I drilled it, it would come up pretty slushy, if that makes any sense.

K2,

Would I lie to you? Absolutely not! On Monday, the conditions were excellent. The ice/hard snow depth was almost 2 feet. The edges were rock solid. There was no slush anywhere I went on my snowmobile between 9 AM and 2 PM. The ice did NOT talk to me the whole time I was out there.

The fishing sucked for me. Playas44 caught a few off Cemetary Point fishing 10 to 15 feet away, but I caught nada. I left and he went to the Narrows. Don’t know how he did over there. There is a storm coming in today and it may produce rain even up in Ogden Valley. Only time will tell.

By the way Jim, it was nice meeting you and fishing with you. Hope to see you again. Let me know when you’ll be back up and we can do it again.

Dubob…heck no I know you won’t lie to me… We were there Saturday and yep good solid ice conditions…but I’m look’n to head to PV on Saturday (7 Mar) for one last hoorah…and just want to know PV ice throughout the week…

I agree with the warmer weather all this week who knows, rain forecasted but colder at night with colder temps and snow forecasted for this weekend.

Thanks Dubob…:slight_smile::slight_smile:

I ran up last night 3-3-09 to check out ice conditions. There was water on the ice in the narrows. Went over to port ramp. The edges were good and the ice was at least 18" and no slush to my amazement. Fishing stunk, didnt catch a thing.

Bob,
I enjoyed the time on the ice as well. It was nice to meet you.
I drilled a bunch of holes over in the narrows. Saw some fish at about 33 feet. But like most of the other spots, they wouldn’t bite.
I only stayed about 30 more minutes after you left.
I am hoping the ice holds up and maybe I can get back up for one more trip this weekend.
I was going to post earlier, but couldn’t get my camera to download the pictures.
Like I told you, that was 4 trips in a row that I have caught fish between 10 and 1030 and not one before or after that time frame.
I don’t get it. I see them on the finder, but they just don’t bite.
