not sure what the pond is called but fished it with my buddy yesterday and we caught 5 each using nymphs on fly rods. wind suckedbut it was great to get a line in the water and a tug on the line! I talked to a guy that said there were brown trout in there and that he had caught one that was 18". I found this hard to believe and was wondering if anyone had seen anything or heard something like thirds?
this… sorry for the typo
I think you are reffering to the Sandy Pond. Love that place.
Could be the Brood stock he is talking about. At jensen last year we caught a 20 inch brook/brown (couldn’t tell exactly) which they released into there full grown.
They put in the fish they think wont produce any more in hopes of a kid catching it and falling in love with fishing.. (or a harvester that keeps a kajillion fish)
Though I could be wrong and there could just be decent fish there. I was at jensen last week and caught several bows over the 18 inch mark. Not brown but it wouldn’t shock me.
Just my 2cents worth.
In the winter months some of the Community Ponds that haven’t frozen over, will receive excess Brook Stock Trout. These fish are usually extra fish that were not needed for their milt or eggs.
You will usually be able to tell them by their worn off fins and tails.
Life in a hatchery takes a toll on these fish but if they survive long enough in a Community Pond, their tails and fins can start to grow back.
These ponds may receive Browns, Rainbows, Lakers, Brookies or Albino Trout.
They can make for some fun fishing during the winter months.
At Bountiful Pond a few days ago, a guy came by with a rainbow, probably 3 lb plus, not a fin on the poor thing, and he kept calling it a lake trout.
There are even a few 5 pounders outta the sandy pond too. I saw a rainbow last year that size. Last fall there was a brood stock put in there and they were a hoot to catch. Check the stocking reports and you will see them on there.
pretty cool stuff. I’d love to pull one of those out of there. thanks for the info!
That’s definitely Sandy Pond. I was there 10 days ago, and I think I met the same guy you did. Older guy, stating that he had caught " a large brown trout just, last week" Held his hands apart, indicating that the fish was about 2 feet long.
Took his word with a grain of salt. Also he had never heard of anyone catching bluegills out of there. I pointed down to the little fish swimming in the shadows of the dock, and said, “Oh really? there they are right there”

Absolutely!
I go to the sandy pond several times a week… They did recently plant about 300 or more German browns that were brood stock… I caught a really good size one just off the dock… There was a kid that caught one using bread believe it or not, a really good sized one… there are also huge rainbows in there too… I’ll try and upload the pic of the brown from my phone…
Weird, it didn’t work, I’ll try it again
