Hit strawberry on Tues. and it was -23 at the marina when we showed up and fogged in. Fished my normal spot and did very well. Ended up landing 27 with 3 over the slot, 8 of the fish were rainbows and the rest cutts. Between my friend and I we caught 50+ fish with 10 bows. The bows were big. I landed a 22", 20.5",and the rest were in the 15-17" class. My friends were 23.5" and a 20 incher. Finally we got into some great rainbows. All fish were caught shallow.
Sounds like a great day…and rainbows to boot…How shallow is shallow?
Sound’s like you had a great, time did you use anything different to get into the bow’s? Where we’re you fishing?
All the fish were caught in 6 to 12 feet of water. The use of two poles is important. Not many fish come along in 6 feet so I set up a pole and let it sit while I like to fish in 10-12 feet and can watch the Vex. The bite is differnt shallow the fish grab the jig and swim away so the bite is a slow steady pull on the rod and I usually have time to get to the pole. Most of the fish I catch shallow are bigger than average. I catch most of the rainbows on normal jig and bait combo’s but do have a few “secret” baits that consistantly produce big fish, but they only produce in shallow water.
