Cleaning station at Jordanelle still closed

Wonder what it will take to get them to fix or do whatever to get it open, seems like there is no interest in getting that done. My brother was up there yesterday and talked to guys directing boats and parking they had no idea on when it would be open or working. Who can we call or email. I’m going to try to contact the park, maybe if enough people complain something will change. It was down much of last year!

I sent an email and asked for an update. I will try to call as well. If any one else wants to contact them

Maybe that will get something moving. Here is contact info for Jordanelle State Park

Good question Pat. I decided to contact the DNR State Parks Office ( Contact Information | Utah State Parks ) with the same question. Here is what I sent them:

For much of last year and all of this year, the fish cleaning station at Jordanelle State Park has been shut down. We are now in the busiest season of the year - the 101 Critical Days of Summer - and fishing there is now in full swing. Can you tell me what the status of a repair or replacement of the fish cleaning station at the main launch ramp is and what is the estimated completion date?

I will report back when (if) I get a response from that office.

Great :+1:. I sent a similar mail asking for a response and update on status as well. Hopefully a few others email or call and get somebody moving on that!

No response on email asking about cleaning station? Anyone else have any luck?

Same here Pat; nada. I guess I need to make a phone call.

Update: I talked with a staff member at Jordanelle today. The cleaning station is ancient (old) and parts procurement is problematic. The grinder motor failed last year and it took several month’s to find and procure a replacement. After the new motor was purchased and installed, it was discovered that a part needed to get lake water to the station was found to be broken as well. That part is currently on order with no EDD as of today. That staff member told me she would notify me when the part is installed and the station is back in business.

I also aske her if there are any plans to replace the existing station with one similar the new ones installed at Willard Bay South marina and the new park at Echo. She said there is a budget request for next fiscal year (Jul 2026 - Jun 2027) but unknown at this point in time. She also said she would contact the Willard & Echo managers to gather what info she could about their cleaning stations.

It ain’t fixed yet, but it looks like they are working the problem and it should be running again soon. If she does call me when it is back up, I will let all y’all know. Tight lines y’all.

Thanks Bob for getting this problem a little easier to understand. Sounds like the same problems they had at Willard, as you said. Strange they couldn’t be bothered to respond to an email

Bob,

Great work. Funny that other part just ordered today! Calls and email may have had something to do with that. I emailed the park directly no reply when I looked earlier . Good you got them on a call! The new one at Echo can operate when temps are cold! I talked the for former park manager he requested that when they put the park together. He is now LE Officer , nice guy.

I hate to cast aspersions (but I’ll try any bait), but I have found State Parks very difficult to communicate with, and frankly, lacking in several other ways. I don’t know if it is lack of funding, lack of leadership from above, bureaucratic apathy, difficulty finding good employees, or what. The flip-flopping and management of annual passes is one example. Not returning messages is another. And it’s always fun to check conditions at a park just to find out that they are way off the mark or way out of date. I have had good interactions with most personnel I have come in contact with, though.

Here’s my most recent experience. I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone or return my call at Scofield. I really needed to know the water level at a particular spot. So I decided to drive up there. By the time I got there I really needed to use a restroom. Surprise! They were locked. I spoke to a couple of nice young ladies and they explained that they weren’t able to get potable water yet. When I said I wouldn’t be drinking the water, just flushing and washing, she replied that people might use water from the sink to drink. She said that there were portapotties by the ramp but I couldn’t see any. I ended up going to the little store in town.

I have had a number of other experiences that were frustrating; my feelings aren’t from one or two random situations only.

I suspect that funding is the biggest hurdle for the State Parks - there isn’t enough to hire the staff they need to EFFICIENTLY run the park. That leads to nobody to answer the phone and/or return the voice mails. I agree with your statement that face-to-face meetings are generally pleasant and productive. I have always treated staff with respect and they have always returned the favor.

I have also found out that sometimes it is better to contact the State Park HQ to get answers or resolve differences when the individual park doesn’t respond in a timely manner. I did that yesterday on the fish cleaning station out-of-order debacle and got a call back in less than 2 hours after talking to HQ. They’re working on it and parts are on order to (hopefully) fix it.

Remember, your dealing with a state agency and they aren’t going to be answering your questions as fast as you hear back from your friends on Fakebook or Idiotgram. :joy:

Yahoo, thanks Bob and all those that were involved in putting pressure on the state parks folks to finally get the fish cleaning station up and running again.

I think the calls and emails helped!! Nice to know ! Thanks Bob for the efforts and updates !

Well done Bob!
You deserve at least one ‘3 buck Pintail’ bag this year!!

One can only hope Shane. Of my 6-duck bag last year, I had 1 buck Pintail.

Well maybe I help you change that this year.
I had a pretty good run of Pintail limits last year.
