Bryce and myself decided it was time to chase some trophy brown’s, so we were off to jordanelle to chuck some big baits. We were on the water at 7 And we started pounding shoreline. It wasn’t fast fishing but iT was Definitely a thrill! We had several hook ups and saw some of the biggest browns Bryce has ever seen chase and follow our baits boatside before giving us the finger and dissapearing into the depths. Two of these big brutes were close to or over 30 inches and easily 8-10+ lbs which was heart stopping to see And even worse to watch swim off.
I did manage at least one tank that was a beastly 27" with an amazing head on him! I don’t like to post my browns on here but thanks to a few of ya I’m motivated to share. . We also ran into a lil smally action on our big baits. . And here’s the proof. ..

Nice report - sweet pix. And I hear ya - even if you don’t hook’m up, sight-fishing is a riot. Seeing a fish chasing you down = wicked.
Saw an article about Pike fishing, with a camera. They saw LOTS more follows than they were aware of (bite-wise).
Also ended up using a S-pattern at the end by the boat, and found a number of hookups from that - change in pattern. Don’t know that it’d work on a brown. I’ve seen plenty spot the boat, and high-tail it.
Granted, while the author never cited a specific article when he stated that handling vertically by the jaw and gill plate can cause irreparable internal damage, he is obviously an expert in this body of knowledge, so I have no choice other than to believe him. He presents compelling evidence along with the remainder of his arguments. He does provide solid evidence supporting a reduction in air time, handling, hook type, bait type, etc. especially when pertaining to the release of big fish. There is a lot to learn in that article (with evidence-based arguments backing it up). I, for one, may finally toss my mesh net and buy a rubber one.

arctic grayling… +1 Trout are much more fragile than warm water species. If anybody is planning on releasing them…don’t handle them by the jaw. It is quite likely he won’t survive.

LMAO! He has released more BIG Browns to fight another day than anyone I know I’m sure the fish was fine. the water is cold and the fish probably swam right away. Fish are not as fragile as everyone thinks they are.Trout are the worst for going belly up but it has nothing to do with the way they where handled by utcatman he knows how to handle these brutes so go teach your handling techniques to someone that doesn’t know what there doing.

Yes, he was held vertically but only the moment the pic was taken, snapped the pics got him right back in the water and watched him swim off back to the depths to be caught and enjoyed again by another fisherman person (man or woman or child).
We value you the healthy release of the fish we catch (musky, bass, trout) just like any one else. I was there, netted the fish, took the pic and released it. The fish was unharmed and will live to be caught again, thanks for your concern but it was handled with the most delicate loving care possible.
Oh and in my honest opinion yes toss your mesh net and get a rubber net, they are not only safer to the fish but dont tangle up with lures and fish like the mesh ones do, those mesh nets can be just as harmful to the fish as incorrect fish handling

no need to white out where where he was caught maybe it will help give others a chance to find the “magic spot”, which is fine with us. We saw a couple giants so they are all over that lake, its just throwing the right thing at the right time! While out there we did hear some whooping and hollering coming from another boat across the lake, sounds like they got a hog as well!! Good for them those big browns are a blast and so violent when they strike.
Utcatman you are the man! All those critics that just have to say something ALWAYS, I sure hope you lose your password because everyone is tired of your constant complaining and badgering! I have friends all over the west that see Utcatman pictures and love them! I would sure love the chance to go learn some big brown catching secrets. Anyways I hope you keep posting pictures cause you sure catch some sweet fish.
