Causey report

Went to Causey with Lightfoot and DeYoungFisherman Saturday. We were all catching fish, but no real size to brag about. The tigers and splake were only in the 5 to 8" range, two rainbows were about 14", one brown went 13", and a cutt at 12". All others we caught were quite small.
Ran into Coldfooter up there, and his group was movning around like most everyone, trying to find some fish.
Plenty of ice; 8 to 10" in most places we hit. The action was fast at times, but never did see any kokes.
Snow was deep on the dam, but nonexistant on the ice. Made the trip back up quite difficult.
Overall, a good day.

Was the ice all clear making up the 8 to 10"? We had under 3" friday with crust and slush.

Depending on the area, there was a little frozen crust with maybe an inch of water. But the top stayed dry, even after cutting holes. Beneath the slush layer, it was clear. We did work the rocky edges a lot, and middle may not have been as thick.

Boy it must have been cold up there since we were there on the 24th, it was only 2 to 3 inches then with 2 or 3 inches of slush and another 3 inches of snow on top. The slush was solid in a lot of spots but when you broke through it was scary. Two to three cranks on the hand auger and we were through the ice. Good to hear it is much thicker now.

I had a second pole that I left for about 2 hours without checking and there was a good inch of ice over the hole. It was 10 degrees when we got up there and 18 when we left. Good day though. I caught a couple browns in the 12-13" range, two splake (one 12" the other 7"), and one tiger about 11". It didn’t get windy until about 12 and even then it wasn’t anything unbearable. Still I would have liked to catch a few kokes.

I don’t fish causey enough and should start since it’s so close for me. Does anyone know when the best time to start catching the kokes is I’d love to get in to some.
