chicken livers has always been my favorite proboly the most commonly used…i like suckers for live bait..and bring a comfortable chair and sturdy pole holder..this is bottom fishing

Lake Mead has some good ones in it in the Callville Bay area(SP). I can ask my uncle who lived in Vegas for 12 years if he knows anywhere.

At the pond down the street I use “chicken hot dogs” and I fish i the right areas in evening times… Now that may just be a Vegas thing cause our birds chirp all night long and sleep during the day in cali it was the other way around LOL. So its safe to say animals are thrown off by the gambling as well.

I think.The word cut bait covers a wide variety of fish baits. The most common ones that are used at Clear Lake are: shad, anchovy, sardines, mackerel and silver side minnows. Cut bluegill are rumored to be a deadly cut bait but since it is illegal to use them in Clear Lake I have no idea as to the validity of the rumor. Cut bait can be a fillet or a chunk, it depends on your preference. I use them primarily for drift fishing in deeper water since the cats are usually feeding on shad or silver side minnows when they go deep.

I’d be careful about using some of those suggestions. I’ve read that WD-40 is a pollutant and it kills the fish. Also, make sure your soap bait has lye for the best results, and, if not lye, lists tollowate (fancy way of saying beef fat) as an ingredient. Still, be careful that the soap isn’t a pollutant because with all the fancy chemicals they put in that stuff nowadays, you never know what it could do to hungry fish.
I know one good way to kill 2 birds with one stone, though. I’ve caught grass carp while catfishing. Grass carp are invasive, so I was reluctant to put it back in the water (which is illegal in Illinois, as I believe). Running low on bait, my dad pulled out his pocket knife and sliced the 20 pound sucker right there. We had huge hits all day using strips from the carcass. Unfortunately, I was only 10 and my hooksets were terrible (it was my first time catfishing, so I set the hook prematurely at least 5 times in 6 minutes).
Other than that, I’ve heard thatdead worms work well.
