I NEED SOME CATFISH BAIT RECIPES , ANYONE GOT SOME OLD FAMILY SECERETS WE CAN SHARE ?
Ivory Soap cut into about one inch chunks work. Bubble gum works. Hard boiled eggs left out in the sun for a few days then mash and mix with some cheese. Smells bad but they seem to like it. Also, the proccessed ham and turkey slices you can get at your local walmart seem to work really well too and is a cheap form of bait. The slices can be a bit difficult to keep on the hook because it is thin but if you wrap it around the hook a few times it will stay on fairly well or mix it up in some white bread and make yourself some dough balls out of it and it stays on a little better too. There is not much that a catfish will not eat.

I live in the Northwest Panhandle of Florida. Fish mostly lakes and small ponds. Fish down on the river once in a while. It has some big cats in it, but a little hard and crowded if you do not have a boat. It also has a sturgeon population, but have never caught one and only known a select few who have. Fish a lot of saltwater from a bridge and a little surf fishing once in a great while. Every July I go to Alaska and fish salmon and trout and if the water is not too rough we do a little halibut fishing. I mostly fish catfish in freshwater. I love catfish! I will do some bass fishing while I wait on the cats, but I do not specifically go and target bass. Lots of lakes and ponds here and easy drive to the saltwater as well. So if one is not doing well the other probably is. If not, I just enojoy the peace and quiet. I can sit all day or night and catch nothing and still have a great time. The fish are just a very welcome bonus. What about you?

Don’t give up on the old favorites. Velveeeta cheeze and recently I have discovered that philladelphia cream cheese(regular not whipped) with a little garlic mashed in it and just the right amount of cuttlefish sauce(available at your local oriental market) even if it is 40 miles away.
i’m also collecting dough ball recipes on the michigan board , so far ther’s just a few , but there for trout , catfish and carp . once i get enough of them we’ll get them put on here as well ! [sly]
velveta ? and waste a perfectly good grilded cheese sandwich for a fish ? 
darn , that’s one hard decision !
Mackeral sun dried and cover with Garlic powder works good too. Of course nightcrawlers and mini marshmellows works too.
I like to keep it simple. All these Crave baits, etc I have heard work too but then your putting chemicals in the water and there are enough in there already.
All my bait is eatable and will disolve with no adverse reactions to the enviroment
that’s what i like about these recipies , safe for the environment and safe and easy for any youngster ( and older youngsters - like myself ) to make and enjoy the experiance of fishing with something we put together ourselves .[:)]

The two recipies that I gave you are both recyclable. What ever is left over, you can take home and still put it on crackers or toast. Is that environmentally friendly enough??? Bon appetit!!
SO , IF SOMEONE SAYS ARE YOU GOING TO FISH OR CUT BAIT , YOU CAN SAY BOTH AND HAVE A SNACK AS WELL ! LOL!
If you get just the right amount of garlic in the mix, it will also keep the fish and game warden at bay. He won’t have a clue what your up to nor will he get close enought to find out. But don’t forget to offer him some cheese and crackers for doing such a fine job. Ha Haaaaaaaaa with the garlic breath.
i cought a 20" channel cat on the day ripened fish bait . instead of a jar i used a zip-lok sandwich bag . cought the bugger on 2# test line also , it took about a half hour to land him in the rivers curent , what a challenge that was , ticked off a bunch of other fishermen too , but hey , i got him , they didn’t !

HERE COMES AN EMBARISING MOMENT , BIGGEST FISH , YES . ONLY FISH , NOPE ! THERE WERE THREE JUNIOR ANGLERS THERE , I THINK THE OLDEST WAS PUSHING SEVEN YEARS OLD , GOBEY AFTER GOBEY THEY LANDED WHILE THE REST OF US OLDER GUYS SAT THERE TWIDDILING OUR THUMBS HOUR AFTER HOUR .
[sly]heres a cajun tennesse catfishing bait you get a fith of jack daniels and find a shady tree dink it jump in and club them in the head with bottle.lol we use a little known trick call howging them as we walk along shallow creeks and spillways then reach in the holes under the washout or bank and let them crab hold of your hand and pull them out .and then the fights on.but make sure your buddy is with you as this can be very dangerous as snakes,and snapping turtles love them holes to so be carefull.

this one comes straight out of the jar. Next trip to the oriental market, look for a jar of brine shrimp paste. That stuff comes at full strength potency. Mix it with your favorite dough and away you go. Jes think dude. People eat that stuff on crackers as well.

but i have tried the snapper stomp hunting .
wade in the marsh till you find a snapper and step firmley on the shell . use a stick to go around the perimiter of the shell untill you find the rough ridges . thats the tail side . reach down , grab the tail and hold on and out or your gonna loose something , lol !
I don’t know what I’ve got in the back corner of my fridge. It’s been sitting there for several months now. I’m thinkin’ I’ll get the courage up to take it out, open it up, and hope it doesn’t devour me! If it’s what I think it is (moldy, but cooked dark red kidney beans), I’ll mix in some flour and kool-aid and see what I come up with!
Who knows, it just might work!
