We had a great turn-out last time.
I am going to try a different approach. Need ideas for location, and dates.
I will run this for a few days to gather the ideas and go from there.
This time we will award for the biggest cat, the smallest, and the most brought in that day for cleaning.
I like the idea of the Provo State Park, because it is more centrally located and easier to find, but there will be fees to pay.
If it’s only $9 like the other state parks, I can come!
How about car pools? If I’m going to pay for being at the lake, I’m gonna be skrimped for getting TO the lake. If I drive my dad’s Blazer, I can bring 7 people. I think it gets about 20 miles to the gallon (I’ll have to ask dad to be sure it’s not less), and Provo is about 70 miles, so if we split that at least 4 ways, it’d only be $4 per person in gas - assuming gas is still about $3.85 when we have this event. (and if I did my math right…)
I don’t have a hitch for trailers to bring a boat, though, so anybody coming with me could only bring inflatables that we can stuff in the cargo section of the back.
Lincoln Beach is free and it ain’t all that much farther away. I have to give ya that Provo is more centrally located but I ain’t gonna pay nine skins to go cattin’ when I can go for free at Lincoln. Okay, I’m cheap… or maybe just poor.
I like the idea though and it sounds like a lot of fun.
Ok… we are getting somewhere.
Lincoln Beach
Provo State Park
Just to add, you can probably park outside the gate and walk in too. Just an idea!!
What do you think TubeDude or Fishound?
Just watchin’ and waitin’.
I don’t fish Provo Boat Harbor from my tube. I have a State Parks pass, but never do as well fishing there.
If I wanna catch cats, I go to Lincoln Beach, Lindon or the west side. Couple of other spots too, but we need to consider having group facilities.
** OK, I’ve been watching the posts about the Kitty fishing. I’ve fished in Utah for 25 years and have never fished for them, but you guys have peaked my interest..[:p] This CatFest you are talking about. Do you go out as a group? Do I bring my big boat or my pontoon? Can you guys give me some pointers on tackle and bait? I’m on a Bear hunt in northern Idaho until June 15th, but would love to come to this get together and learn some tactics if you have it after that.[:/] I have a 21" center console fishing machine that I could take several people on if needed.[unimpressed]**
I propose we meet in the middle of the lake in homemade boats. TubeDude, you can just attach a sail to your tube. I really am lookin forward to this. I saw the pics from last year and it looked like fun. Lindon does produce some big cats.
What about the new area below Lindon? What facilities are there besides tables?
We could also have it at Lindon Harbor. I could talk to those (the owners) this weekend, and see what I can work up.
I am also thinking JUNE 22nd. Its on a Sunday, but would probably be less boat traffic on the water.
It is more of a gathering, fish fry, bbq, and so on.
Last time most of us went fishing in the morning (wherever) and showed up to show and tell, clean fish, cook, and share stories, ideas, techniques, etc.
The festivities will probably again be in the early afternoon hours.
OK, I’ll keep watching the posts and as it gets closer, I’ll have questions on tackle and bait. Are you mostly still fishing from boats and pontoons?
Hey Sportfishnsteve… PM Me.
Here are a couple of the writeups I post every once in a while, with info on Utah Lake cattin’ and best baits, etc.
We might also set up a “Catfish 101” session over at Willow Park Pond sometime between now and then to go over baits, rigs, techniques, etc.
Let us know when you are back in town and we can see how many folks wanna get together for a strategy session.
Pat,
thanks again. I’ll read through the info.
I’ll be back in town on the 15th.
Catfishgitter has offered to tag along in my boat and show me how to do this.
I think this will be fun!
Steve
Great idea Catfishgitter !
Provo definitely has the best facilities and there are a couple of spots there that can really produce some good numbers of catfish. But, it would be the most expensive for most folks - unless they have a state park pass.
Nevertheless …
**My vote would be (because of potential numbers of people) either Lincoln or Lindon - the beach area (new developement) south of Lindon could be good for the meet up and fish fry. Lincoln would be more user friendly and it’s free, but Lindon is closer for a lot of folks, and cheeper than Provo. **
What’s the scoop on the date ?
Maybe June 22nd… but no feedback yet.
lincoln beach is approx 20 miles from provo harbor each way wich with the gas prices is a better deal not to mention a far better facility than the dirt mound called lincoln beach.
The area south of lindon is nice but people should know that when they say it’s shallow they mean it.
Lindon is $7 now so it is not that good of a deal with no fish station, no pavilion small area, best would be provo harbor cost wise and amenities.
Sunday 22nd is okay with me. I really have no input on the location, as I don’t go there enough to really know what’s good or bad about wherever.
well since i missed the last catfest, as well as the catfish floatilla … .. count me in!!! i will leave my northern territory and head down to slay some of them utah lake fatties!!!
i look forward to it!!! since i have yet to meet many of you…
for me the fishing is always better at lindon… or lincoln… but lincoln is a heck of a drive for me … but if thats where it windes up then i am going to bee there…
as for the 22nd that tottally works for me… sounds like a blast!!!
