Catch O' The Lifetime @ The Berry!

Without hesitation, I can tell you that this is one of the greatest catches of my career. Never has this happened to me before, and I doubt it will ever happen again.

Behold:

Not only did I pull that HOG up from the depths, I also caught my first Koke!

I went to the Berry in search of Chubs, but only got a few trout:

And this poor guy/gal – I swear, I’m holding this fish as gently as I can… Probably the saddest trout I’ve ever held.

All in all, a good day… until the wind kicked up. I’ve never been in wind like that, and it actually blew me across the lake. Even w/ my motor going on high I was still losing ground. Spent seven hours fighting to get back, most of which was walking the 'toon along the bank to get to my truck.

Looks like that pole fish looks very tasty. You descovered a new species in strawberry XD Hope it taste good. Thats one small koke

WOW, a blue reel, darn I have never caught one, but it is on my bucket list. Was that a koke, sorry I thought it was bait. Good job did the Black rod fight much, might have to change the line before you fish it…[;)]

And I thought Trout were slimy!

You sure that’s a Koke? Looks like a Rainbow!
You gonna smoke it!?!?!

:sunglasses:Nice work. Looks like you scored well…on fishies too.

I bounce jigs on the bottom a lot so I have dredged up a grundle of lost rods over the years. But I have never recovered any that were “top end”. You hear reports of guys losing high dollar rods and reels but most of what I bring up would have been better left on the bottom…except for the ecology thing.

Here’s a pic of a red reel outfit I got a year ago on Willard. Now if one of us can bring in one with a white reel we can have a patriotic collection…red, white and blue. Let’s see if we can make it by the 4th of July.

The rainbow are sterile. The tribs to Strawberry have plenty of those 1-2 inch kokes in late spring after they spawn in the fall. They do make their way back to the reservoir. My first salmon ever was that size .

I honestly have no idea what it was, other than it had a forked tail and no spots. I’m claiming Koke, dammit!

sorry to brake the news too ya big guy that is a red side shinner..

I had to put on the breaks and pull over to say this: YOU LIE!

oh your at the denial stage.. let me push you over the edge to exeptence stage then… [crazy]

look at the pointy nose, and the dead give away is the gold line running down the side.. that is a red side shinner [:p]

you’ll have to work harder on the kokanee. sorry

No adipose fin, so it is not a trout or a salmon.

I should add … not a whitefish, grayling, or char either.

You’ve got you’re ideas, and I have mine – accept, you’res are wrong.

What kind of reel is that?

I believe it’s a P.O.S.

The whole rig looked like a Wallmart special.

Be nice… That’s all I own…[:p]

Now don’t be fibben I’ve seen what you fish with it’s not off the bargain rack. Later J

You mean the stuff I had that was homemade?[;)]

Seriously, I doubt any one of my outfits has more than 50.00 in it, counting rod, reel and line.

I saved for a year once and splurged on an UglyStik!

Come on down to UL, SkunkedAgain. Hard not to catch cats right now, and WB are still around.

Just teasing, but it looked like you had good equipment not that you can’t find good stuff at Walmart. I got a nice Garcia reel there. Anyway thank you for the invite to UL but I am fairly limited on fishing time and have more plans than time this summer so I’ll have to decline but I appreciate the offer. thanks J

Agreed, red sided shiner all the way. I have caught thousands of them over the years… and they are in the berry for sure
