Went to Catalina today. Not Good. 3/4 day boat. Good boat, great crew, beautiful weather, fishing fun… catching…NOT !!!
Fish I caught: Starry rockfish, whitefish, sheephead, opaleye, catalina blue, mostly short calico, salmon grouper, sculpin, and a cold or at least a slight fever.
Fished the kelp strings near bird rock then rockfish in 300 feet of water with 8 ounces of lead.
Skipper worked hard and got back at 6:30.

How did ya catch the Opaleye? Those things stink like the dickens when ya clean 'em but sure are nice on the table.

Hi there,
Nooooo way ! I’m retired and I ain’t gonna be around at no real job! It was kinda wierd on the Opaleye ! There were going for the squid strips. They were mixed in with the catalina blue or are they blacksmith perch. Nice size at 1 1/2lbs.
I guess the real deal for our opalyey buddies are green peas but around 6 were put on the boat along with the other perch.

It looks like the green pea trick only works best at Avalon. I couldn’t get them to bite on squid at Avalon. They were also hitting good on strips at the Channel Islands.
