cast net help!!!

Hi guys, I got a cast net for christmas and im planing to start catfishing and I like to cut bait. Can anyone tell me if you can catch bluegill, white bass, and carp on a cast net. Thank you

:sunglasses:You can use a cast net on non-protected species. These include carp, chubs, shiners, fathead minnows, etc. They do not include white bass, bluegills or any other gamefish. In fact, if your bucket is checked by a CO and you have any protected species you are toast.

Also, be sure to kill your minnows as soon as you catch them. Keeping them alive in a bucket of water is a no no.

Thank you for the information

:sunglasses:Just in case you need some help in learning how to throw that thing, here is a pictorial.

Thanks TD…your editorial just made me aware of the one “problems” I have been having using mine…
thanks again!!

watch out you don’t net up any gizzard shad at Willard either.

:sunglasses:You mean “spotted carp” minnows?

Unreal I thought in Utah you were not allowed to use a cast net over 4 feet all the way across. 10 feet? I was surprised. I just looked up the fishing proclomation lo and behold viola! I could not believe my own eyes. I had to look up the word radius in the dictionary, I thought it meant Latin for the whole circle across rather than the center. 10 footsers legal in Utah wow.:astonished:

About how I throw a throw net. I don’t do it the way your .pdf file says, that way just does not work for me. I thought it would work but not for me. I just use my elbow and stick it under the net and well…and do some other things and throw it, works for me. I can’t explain it I sort of toss it like a frisby suing my elbow. Seems to work.

Last time I used a net was the Jordan, caught quite a few Utah suckers but they are too small for bait. But I had fun catching them.

I still have a brand new throw net, never been used. The other one that I had I caught a underwater tree stump at the Jordan River. Silly me, ding ding dingaling.[pirate]
