There is fly fishing (artificial made with feathers, hair/fur, synthetic) pushed a little with plastic beads and rubber do dads. No artificial or added scent or taste.
No elitist, just fly fishing.
You wanna change those rules, go for it, but it is no longer fly fishing…does it matter, maybe to ones self is all.
The BEST bait for carp comes in a small tube with a wick sticking out of it…called an M80 or dyn-0-mite!! Applied in the middle of a school of carp, you could fill the back of a pickup in one or two applications!! Second best bait is a type that is FORCE FED to the carp. It’s made of wood, aluminum, fiberglass, or carbon…and it applied with an instrument similar to what the Indians used to dispatch buffalo with…and is usually quite hard to pull back to deliver the “bait”.
Back before I started fly fishing for them, we used to just use cheap white bread. The really soft, completely devoid of any kind of nutritional content kind worked best. We would just mold it around about a #4 hook, toss it out on an ultralight with no weight and let it settle to the bottom. We caught plenty.
oh believe me I have.spent my time catching them in flies! my cousins have a beach house and the bread makes it easier to get them a fish on the fly while were there

Have you tied a puff-ball bread-imitation? I’d expect some egg patterns, done in a white, or ivory type color… ???
For the bait-flingers amongst ya - here a dough recipe once sent to me (actually thought about adding some marshmallows, or something to make it float):
1 cup or more of flower(depending on the consistency you want)
1 egg
garlic powder
cheese
lots of salt
thats about it, u can add anything else you think will make it smell. mix it all together and add water or flour depending on how runny or dry it is, usually once it doesnt stick to your fingers anymore it will be fine. good luck out there!
My son’s found a spot where the carp swarm, and he’s off catching them on his own with buddies! I’m all - GO DUDE! I might need to check if there’s any other brown fishes in that little crick!
All good. Just the way I choose to roll is all. Got nothing against bait, I just don’t use it and knock on wood, I haven’t needed to.
Speaking of Carp, I went out looking to catch one or two but I also got a pleasant surprise. Heck I had no idea they were in there.
Took a new pattern I tied up with a stinger. I mean he swallowed it. Good thing their mouths are big enough to get the forcepts in and unhook.

I might actually tie flies this crummy weekend! Made more bottle-cap lures yesterday - gotta pitch them in front of some bass! Maybe try (feeble attempt) to tie some of those carp flies ya’ll swapped! Though I don’t think I’m ready for crawdad patterns!

It was a perch pattern with a stinger hook. Yes he inhaled it. Thank Gawd the mouth was big enough to get forcepts down to push on the hook for release (both hooks barbless).
This was one of three. Bass are active right now I guess.

Carp recipe:
Items needed: wooden cutting board, fillet knife, salt, pepper
Using fillet knife, fillet carp into two fillets. You may cut the fillets into smaller strips if desired.
Rinse fillets off under water.
Clean off the board and put carp back on it to finish preparation. Salt and pepper carp fillets.
Put in bowl of water and add more salt.
EAT THE BOARD!!
Here is two versions. The one with the sculpin head sinks fast. I used the one with the cone head and it was first cast for this one…took a few more tries for the other two

I would imagine, but I have never fished Pineview on open water. Last year, I had great success fishing for muskie at Newton with those colors. No one up here has anything like that, and I don’t have anything I need to make my own. Even if I did, I am not sure I could.
Let me stock up and I will give you a shout closer to open water time. I am curious if they work too.
I think they will cast okay with spinning gear as they are a little heavy. Specially when wet as they are 4" long

I have had this Fire Tiger rabbit for a couple of years. It worked well for me at Rockport on Bass and I forgot all about that, but need the Olive on the back…at least to catch me..LOL Also worked great at Scofield, but again with the olive.
